Hi there

My 2 and half yr old son has a splinter in the bottom of his foot - cant get near it without him squirming - anyone suggest anything? Have covered it in savlon to help stop infection..

Thanks!

it depends

you can leave it and see if it works itself out on its own (they do do that you know!)

or you can attack him

wait till he's had a bath, prick a hole in it, and squeeze. You'll need to sit on him I imagine as it will hurt and he will wriggle

I tend to leave them unless they are vicious big things

mine let me do theirs now as I'm quick - that's the key thing. Sharpen up your splinter skills.

Is he interested in the body? I found one of mine was quite fascinated by the whole process (yes, the same one who picks scabs now and gets nosebleeds and falls over and has massive gashes but carries on) and was fine about me doing it and in fact, wanted to try himself so you may be surprised.

someone once told me that they use sellotape to get kids splinters out....stick it on and pull it out!

not sure if it works or not....

Ha ha thanks for your advice! I think it will have to be attack mode - which i have to do just to cut his toe nails - think he has really tickly feet!

what do you use to prick a hole in it? (Yuk)

OK, this will sound bizarre but I'm told it does work... Apparently, if you put a bit of bread moistned with milk on it (presume you'd have to attach with a plaster/band-aid?) it will draw the splinter out.

Have looked on Google and this seems to be quite well known and works!

If you are going for attack use a needle not a pin. Needles are made of steel - pins can be made of any old alloy and my infect.

I normally put the needle in boiling water for a bit (but make sure it's cooled down first!)

ooh thanks guys - best get my sellotape and bread and milk out the cupboard and get going.. my husband will think im crazy but hey ho!

How to get metal bits out of my 2 year olds foot. There's about 4 bits I tried with tweezers won't come out it's been there about 4 days it doesn't seem it's coming out itself. I tried selotape and the calpol syringe technic nothing seems to be working
