Rescued him. Held him upside down whilst he coughed it out. Seems ok now but is time for his nap. Do I need to get him checked out?

I would - just to be on the safe side in case of germs etc. Call NHS Direct for advice and they may be able to get you into the out of hours clinic if you are worried about a trip to the hospital.

yes just to be on safe side - phone your out of hours service for an appointment. hope hes ok

ilovesprouts · 13/02/2010 12:11

ring nhs direct just to be on the safe side

nellie12 · 13/02/2010 12:12

sorry to go against everyone but dont bother with nhs direct - he does need seeing to decide if he needs antibiotic cover. nhs direct is just delaying the process.

Not for the choking or coughing as he's obviously ok but because pond water can need antibiotic cover so worthwhile checking with your GP

Lifeinagoldfishbowl · 13/02/2010 12:14

doctors/walk in or a and e - he could drown later on if water has got into his lungs.

Thanks - spoke to NHS direct who said to keep an eye on him - they then rang back as they had done a bit of research on secondary drowning and said I should get him checked out at A&E. DH happened to be out with some friends including our GP so checked with him and he said as was only in water for a few seconds secondary drowning not a risk - hypothermia biggest risk
