DD has got her first case of head lice.

Last Saturday I got the Nitty Gritty Comb and spent about 45 mins combing through with conditioner, have been doing every couple of days. On Thursday (the last time I combed) I removed about 5 tiny lice no eggs.
Today she has loads of eggs near her forehead and keep spotting the odd crawling one, is this normal. Shall I just go straight to Hedrin.

If you're doing this method you need to carry on for a couple of weeks.

I always do two hedrin treatments 7 days apart and this works really well. My younger daughter's gift to the world is her ability to catch head lice.

I do the nitty gritty comb in morning and night plus hendrin for 1 week and they went.

I do the comb as party of our bathtime/hairwash routine now - this comb is the best

We only use nitty gritty conditioner combing. The DCs have a shampoo every other night, so I do it then. On non-shampoo nights, I damp down and use spray conditioner. I go over their scalps thoroughly and find that this comb is the biz. On the first use, it was horrifying what came out - huge, medium and small lice and eggs. With regular "doings" I only find recent immigrant lice and a few eggs. It is probably impossible to eliminate the little bug(ger)s permanently - all we can do is remove them asap.
vjg13 - I do sympathise - some DCs heads are more attractive than others - my DD is a magnet whilst they seem to hate DS's hair.

PS - am I the only person to despise those letters from the school alerting us all to the fact that there is a head lice issue, with the "useful" reminder about lice preferring clean hair?
Maybe the lice like clean hair and maybe they don't, but that is of no importance - in my DC's school they have a happy breeding ground in the undisturbed hair of the children who are, frankly, quite unfresh.

my DCs heads are covered in them all the time, it only takes one person in the school not to remove them then your back to square one, i've been doing their hair 4 months non stop, I use the nitty gritty comb, I am doing their hair every 2 days, just did it last night, got them all out. At least I know they will be clean for the half term lol.

Bring back the nit nurse in school I say.

Hedrin worked for us when NG conditioner combing didn't.

Thanks for your replies, yesterday I did a treatment of Hedrin, mainly just to try and get on top of things. Last week my knowledge of nits and lice was Zero - didn't really know what I was looking for so its possible I was missing some, having now established what the eggs actually look like (oh the joys of internet images) I will be Nitty Grittying on a weekly basis.

All I need now is to get my greasy hair sorted! Did a treatment on myself as a safeguard, although as I straighten my hair hopefully if any critters will be fried?!
