Does anyone know if a 12 month old needs to be 'well' before a general aneshetic?

Hi, my baby is due to have a simple eye operation tomorrow to unblock his tear ducts.

However he's been quite unwell the last few days and nights; temperature, bad cough, snot etc

I can't get through to the ward as apparently it's shut on a sunday! I'm sure I'll get through in the morning but just wondered if it's always an absolute no with these things.

Many tia!

I would say absolute no for anaesthetic for non urgent operation if temp and unwell.

Thought that might be the case. I'll relax then haven't been looking forward to it anyway!
Thankyou

ideally, aybody should not have a temp or a bad cold before an anaesthetic

I would say he should delay it, ring the ward 1st thing, they should tell you the same

It would most likely be a no, especially for a non urgent op. When DS had his at a bit older they did lots of checks - listened to his chest, blood pressure, temp etc. Anything out of the ordinary and they would not do it. A little boy went home instead of having his op simply because he was 'off colour'.
