after 2yo they can have semi but they don't need to.

SingleMum01 · 02/02/2010 19:43

why? My DS (7) loves milk and up until recently has had full fat milk - i've only changed it as he has developed a lactose intolerance. He only drinks milk and water. If your DD likes it I don't see any problem with keeping her on it. In fact my DS was the first to lose his baby teeth and I swear it was all the calcium in him pushing his adult ones through!

MrsBadger · 02/02/2010 19:46

(nb there is no more calcium in ff milk than in semi, or indeed in skimmed)

SingleMum01 · 02/02/2010 19:48

oh!

GooberHasBookedHerHols · 02/02/2010 19:51

Full fat milk for children.

Seona1973 · 02/02/2010 19:59

it is ok to switch to semi-skimmed at 2 if they have a good varied diet, but you dont have to. We switched to semi-skimmed when ds turned 2 (dd was 5 by then) as that is what I tend to use.

megcleary · 02/02/2010 22:15

cheers all dd doesn't have that much and think i'll keep her on it just checking

isn't full fat milk only 4% fat anyway?

PacificDogwood · 02/02/2010 22:22

Yes, 3.5 - 4% fat in FF milk as opposed to 1.5 - 2% in semi-skimmed.
Only significant difference is fat content, ie calories.

Personally, DS1 stayed on FF for longer as he was/is a skinny minny whereas DS2 was changed to (our) SS after he was 2 as he became a bit too Buddhaesque IYKWIM...

TheBreastmilksOnMe · 02/02/2010 22:24

After the age of 2 it's ok to put them onto semi-skimmed if they are a normal, healthy weight. If they are underweight then keep them on the full-fat. No harm in either, really.

singlemum- milk doesn't really have anything to do with how quickly teeth come through, it's all down to genetics. It doesnt really strengthen the teeth after they have come through either, fluoride does.

dd is tall and skinny, I am 5 foot and at nearly 2.6 the top of her head is just over my hip
