Chickenpox questions if you don't mind :)

DD(5) has chicken pox..she is on the 5th day of spots and they keep on coming..so full dose of chickenpox i think. Just waiting for her twin brother to start with it now!

DS(8) came out in spots on Tuesday evening (so day 4 now) He had about 10 spots on his upper back...and last night had 15...this morning they seem to be fading, none have blistered and i can't see anymore coming up. Is this mild chickenpox??? Do people with a mild dose of it not actually get the blistering fluid-filled side of it?? Confused!

Also...DP and i are supposed to be going to a friends party on Saturday..obviously only one of us will go now...just wanted to make sure there is no risk of us passing it on as we have both had it as children. The friends have a 4 week old baby and wouldn't want to pass anything on....just wanting to double..double check there is no risk.

Thank-you

i would tell your friends as 10 days is still the infectious stage and if another of your DC's gets it you will pass it to their baby more than likely

Oh it's not for children though..it's a 3oth nightime party..so just for adults!

yes but if you are carry the infection it will be passed on to the adults who then pass it on to little ones

OhYouBadBadKitten · 29/01/2010 13:13

I'm pretty sure that contacts can't pass on chickenpox?

PureAsTheColdDrivenSnow · 29/01/2010 13:15

I didn't think you could carry chickenpox if you're already had it (she says, assuming the OP and her OH had a full dose as kids)

OP - I asked the same thing here

idobelieveinfairies · 29/01/2010 13:15

I know..thats what i was wondering alypaly..tis confusing!

Anybody else know how the chickenpox thing works??

I presume we have both had the full dose. I am sure we would have caught it when the 4 older children had chickenpox and different times otherwise.

What i don't understand is that we are both obviously surrounded by the virus at this time, therefore breathing it in/touching it..is it that our bodies kill it..because we have previously had it... before we would get the chance to pass it on?

if you have had it before ,it doesnt mean that you wont be a carrier.
It is spread by touch ,cough droplets and infected clothing.

You may not have the symtoms as you mght have immunity but then you can carry it. If there are any pregnant women going to this party ,that could be a problem and anyone with a low immunity as it can cause shingles

idobelieveinfairies · 29/01/2010 13:25

Just googled and according to some you can carry it and pass it on even though you are immune to it yourself.

So we will be giving the party a miss.

ANyone know the answer to my other question about mild cases but not blistering spots?? I tried googling that and not getting any luck!

maybe he has just been lucky, however if it is only mild i guess it might be possible to get it again. My friend had it twice...once as a child and then when she was 33 and she was very poorly with it.

mears · 29/01/2010 13:32

Passing it on would be extremely rare I have to say. The occupational health department to do not exclude health care staff from attending work.

I presume you would be going to the party in clean clothes and with hands washed? I think not to go is overkill but up to you.

idobelieveinfairies · 29/01/2010 13:39

Well tbh..i am too exhausted to go anyway...of course clean clothes and hands!!! However i can't say for sure i won't give out a bit of a cough whilst guzzling down the barcardi!!

There is a strong chance that the other 2 children will wake with spots in the morning anyway....
