Eczema and dry skin

Hi everyone, I am new to this website and hope you can help.
My baby is 5 months old and for 2 months now she has been having really dry skin everywhere except the nappy area and back. I've been to see her GP who said it was infant ezcema and prescribed E45 for general moisturising and a mild steroid cream for flare-ups. My LO turned out to be allergic to E45 so I now use white soft paraffin instead, which seems to do the trick with keeping her skin in an OK condition. However it is not getting better and I was wondering if any of you have used something that totally clears the skin up. My LO's skin is very itchy at the moment and I am keen to find something that will get rid of her discomfort altogether. Not that it is important but I find all her bodysuits are a right mess too, since the paraffin never washes out completely in the washing machine. Thanks for your replies in advance.

Aveeno cream (ask your GP for prescription) is oatmeal based, and works well in my experience.
You can also add a cup of oats in a muslin bag to bathwater to soothe skin too.
The main thing is to keep the skin as moisturised as you can, and it will pass

Good luck, you're doing the right things

you can get tubifast body bandages from the doc on prescription and put the cream on underneath...just the moisturiser(NOT the STEROID)
You can use emulsifying ointment as a soap substitute and a steroid sparing agent....diprobase and double base and epaderm are good too.

Aveeno make oatmeal sachets that you can put in the bath.

My 8 months old has;

Diprobase - moisterises
Doublebase gel -moisterises
Doublebase wash gel - soap alternative
Oilitum for the bath
Hyrdocortisone for flare ups

The other thing that seems to have helped recently is changing washing powder to Fairy and double rinsing all of his clothes.

My DD reacts to E45 too. I think it's the lanolin in it as she also reacts to wool.
We're doing well with Aveeno too.
I find it's best to use that steroid cream, when there's a flare up, until the flare up has properly passed - not just almost better.

lanolin is a skin irritant, thats why it has been taken out of most creams.
