Too young for teething ??

DS is 6 weeks. He's been pretty unhappy since birth but the last 2 days he has been really upset - lots of crying/griping, not much sleep (not even co sleeping).

I took him to GP yesterday and was prescribed Gaviscon for possible silent reflux. It hasn't made any difference so far and during one of his crying bouts, I noticed his gums are white and it feels as though teeth are coming through. Am I going mad (easily done on 3 hours sleep in the last 48 hours !) or is it possible he could be teething at 6 weeks ?

If so, is there anything iI can give him? Calpol is 2 months plus (although he is almost 16lb if that makes any difference ?). I am so desperate for some sleep

Not sure about either teething or calpol but can you rub bonjela on his gums?

Some babies are born with teeth, so he could definitely be teething. Try the teething powders - Ashton & Parsons or Nelson Teethas (you can buy both in most chemists) or a teething gel as kreecher suggested. I tend to keep calpol as a last resort anyway

It is early but not impossible.

I wouldn't give Calpol without speaking to GP or HV though. And you could get them to have a look too and see what they think.

My DD showed symptoms of "teething" from about 3 months, however he didn't get teeth til she was over a year ol. So I would definitely have it checked out first, for other possibilities.

As Bertie says, babies can be born with teeth, so it's definitely possible.

Thanks. Tried Nelson powders and they did stop the crying briefly but not long enough to be able to put him down and get some sleep

Bonjela says from 2 months too

I'm trying to get to see GP today
