My friend's son had intersusception when aged 3. He had surgery on day 4 of the condition, the operation was for suspected appendicitis, when they found how serious it was. He had a few weeks in hospital, & was sent home with very poor follow up as he'd been treated at the nearest big city hospital and there was no aftercare set up, BUT he's doing great now, so good luck and keep asking the healthcare professionals for as much info as you can. It is quite rare so it's hard to find much advice.

My daughter had this condition when she was 7 months old. The hospital were great and i cannot fault them. While they were operating they removed her appendix and noticed that her bowels were wrongly positioned which they corrected. They ended up removing a third of her bowel. Aftercare was brilliant and we went back for a checkup a few months later and were given the all clear. I asked the surgeon if she would have any problems in the future affecting nutrient absorbsion as she had lost so much of her bowel. I was told that she could have a blood test when she was about 2 years old to see if she was lacking in nutrients. She is now 2 and she is very underweight at 10kg. She has dropped below the 25th centile while being over the 75th in height. She has struggled to fight chest infections which majorly lessens her appetite. I have been worried for the last 3 months about her weight, getting the HV to come round and asking doctors for advice. I have now managed to be referred to the surgeon who operated on her for some advice/tests. I too have been trying to find out as much info as i can on this. Is my daughter just one of the unlucky ones or is this very common?? Hopefully i will get some answers, and when i do i will let you know.
