D.s with red swollen face.

D.s was skiing yesterday. I noticed last night that he was a bit red underneath where the rim of his visor would have been, but this morning his face is swollen and very red under his eyes and down his face a fair bit. I gave some antihistamine, but it seems to be spreading. It was sunny, but he had sun cream on. He is prone to allergies. Anyone any ideas?

Had you used that suncream and visor before?

gp to get checked over if you dont know what it is. Any facial swelling should be checked out as it is in close proximity to the aiways.

airways.

Has he been vaccinated - could be mumps although it doesn't sound typical if the swelling has started near his eyes. What about food - eaten anything unusual?

I have used the visor, but not the suncream before. Would it cause such localised swelling though, as he had it alll over his face. I think that the angry redness may have gone down a bit. He has not had the mumps vaccination, would the swelling not start around the glands? Anyway thank you all. If it is still as angry looking after lunch we will go to the out of hours docs.

Mumps swelling does start round the jawbone I think but there's always an exception. If you haven't used the cream before that's your most likely suspect though. I think you should watch him very closely and if the antihistimine has had no effect don't wait, go now. I don't want to nag about the mumps vaccine but I assume you're aware of all the complications that illness can cause?

It has calmed down a bit now. No longer swollen, but still red.I think it must have been the visor as he has a racoon like red mask. Thanks again all.
