had DS2 home from school today he was sick at 5.30am, then had a runny tunny until lunchtime, sick again at lunchtime but been fine all afternoon.

I've been wracking my brains trying to work out whether it's 24 or 48hrs that you're supposed to keep them off school (or obviously as it's the weeekend now - away from other children...........other than their siblings obviously )

Thought I'd hunt out some school letters has both recently sent letters home about a bug going round.

Very helpfully one school says

"please keep them at home for 24hrs after the last incidence"

the other says 48hrs.........

which is it??

please anyone?

would be really useful to know before I go to bed as DS2 has been invited to a birthday party late tomorrow afternoon.........obviously it's 48hrs I'll ring in the morning and say he can't go anym ore..........if it's 24hrs he can still go (presumig of course we have nothing more overnight)

When they start whinging and fighting with the other DC's then it's time to go back to school

castlesintheair · 23/01/2010 08:09

48 hours after they were last sick

bubblagirl · 23/01/2010 08:34

48hrs from last sign of anything if its school etc but it did used to be 24 hr so if feeling well you could phone the parent and say its been 24 hrs would she feel happy to have him there

Awassailinglookingforanswers · 23/01/2010 12:14

lol LouIs - he was doing that in between trips to the toilet yesterday morning .

Thanks for the replies, he's not going, even if the parent had said ok, I wouldn't liked to have risk it if official advice is 48hrs even if the parent said yes, my BF's DD is going to it as well - and she's due to have an operation on Tuesday.......(an important one as well) so would have felt dreadful if her DD got it and had to have her op delayed.

What a nice mum you are Awassailing. Not many would be so considerate.

Awassailinglookingforanswers · 23/01/2010 16:25

well tbh if it wasn't for the fact my BF's DD has her op on Tuesday I would probably have taken him - he's absolutely fine today, and thankfully none of the other DS's seem to have got it either.

But it's a very specialist op she's having a delay could mean a month (or more) of waiting it to be rescheduled and because of the nature of the op that wouldn't be good for her at all.

I am considerably more relaxed about v than I am about d&v. I would maybe take a child to a party after 24 hours of no sick but if dodgy poo as well then definately not. It implies something far more significant going on and takes much longer to settle. Especially of course if somebody had an op coming up.

at my dc's school it's 48hrs
