Rickets

Just read in our local paper that there is concern that there could be a reoccurence of rickets last prevalent in Victorian times in Britain as children now have an indoor culture and are not playing outside as much to fully get benefits of sunlight and fresh air causing deficiency of vitamin D leading to a risk of developing rickets . What do mums think of this?

Apparently being ultra-zealous with sunscreen can also exacerbate the problem = damned if you do/don't.

I did read this and think, mmm maybe get ds some multivits, and then I thought well we actually do go outside quite a lot, I'm not that bothered about sunscreen generally (caveat: I'm talking about occasional exposure in Scotland, obviously extended exposure/summer/beach etc is different), and ds likes oily fish so we're probably ok.

I'm probably ok because I go outside quite a bit and my skin is so pale that it should by rights excel at converting sunlight (well it's got to be useful for something)
