Dumb question, but if a sick 2 year old perked up then got worse again is it something different?

Hi there, my DD1 (2.4 yrs) has never had a tummy bug before (before you get too she has got every other health issue going!). She was sick sick sick everywhere on Wednesday night from about 7pm to 2am (no temp though). She then had a good sleep, and although she ate hardly anything on Thursday, she wasn't sick, and she was drinking and running around the house, and it seemed like it was all out of her system (good job, as I had it yesterday and could hardly move).

Then I got her up this morning, she was sick everywhere again, and has brought back up what little food and most of the drink she's had today. She's also got a temp of 39 and is listless and miserable and very clingy poor love.

I'm a bit confused, is this the normal course of things for tummy bugs? I would have thought that once you're over it, its gone? Or maybe has she got something else on top? Presumably so long as we can keep her temp down (ish) with calpol, and she is taking some fluids, there isn't much else we can do?

I had a gastro bug a few weeks back and it sounded like this -- it came and went. Having compared notes with others, I think it's this season's unique twist

My DD (13 months) has just had this, exactly the same pattern. You're right re calpol and fluids, if she's taking on fluid she'll be fine and will get over it in a few days. DD was very very tired for about 5 days, sleeping all the time it seemed! All back to normal after 5 days.

Thanks, put my mind at rest.

5 days?! Gargh. Bang goes the weekend then! Just really hoping that DD2 and DH escape...

With any luck your DD will feel a lot better tomorrow, mine was over the worst within two days but we had a couple of random pukes and lots of sleepiness over the next three days so it took a while to shake completely.

Neither DH nor I caught it, most odd, especially since I'm 11 weeks PG. Here's hoping your DD shakes it quick.

Yep, dd2 was like this - sick as a dog Saturday, much better Sunday, worse than ever Monday and was finally OK-ish by Wednesday.

Hope your dd feels better soon.

Cheers. She's still malingering, temp still 39 etc. But she's keeping down the calpol/profen and a bit of water now, and is happy that DH is at home today as well. She's also not been sick for a few hours now I've finally learnt to say no to her crying for soya milk and weetabix, as not only do we see it again within 5 minutes, but its a bugger to get out of the carpet.

apart from the house stinking of carpet cleaner, and the washing machine limping towards retirement, its actually quite an easy weekend so far, as she's either asleep or sofa bound, and too tired to terrorise DD2!
