6 yo dd has abcess on her gum

hi my 6 yo dd has an abcess on her gum, the tooth next to it has a filling. I took her to the dentist yesterday and she said that ideally the tooth should be removed. She said that she would refer her to have it done under ga, but i,m absolutely terrified of her being put to sleep. I told the dentist that i suffer from health anxiety and that i don't want hrer to have to have a ga. She said she understands how i feel and that she could try to clean the tooth out and fill it again but my dd would need a local anaesthetic. She has been given anti-biotics and she has to go back in 3 weeks to have this done. I've spoken to my dd about it and explained the options to her, at the moment she seems ok about having it filled with the injection.

I feel so guilty that this has happened and even more guilty that she is going to go through this rather than have a general but the thought just terrifies me. Has anyone elses lo been through this at this age.

My dd had an abcess but the abcess stopped being a problem to her after the ant-biotics so we areleaving things alone until either the problem starts again or the tooth comes out - as it is a baby tooth

I don't feel guilty. She had trouble with that tooth from the time it appeared. It was really deeply recessed and very very hard to clean really thoroughly.
She doesn't have many sweet, juice, fizzy drinks and cleanes her teeththoroughly twice a day.
Twas just one of those things. I feel sorry for her , but not guilty

My ds had two teeth removed when he was six under GA. The dentist tried to clean them out and fill them by my ds kind of freaked out and the dentist couldn't do it. The dentist or his assistant didn't speak English very well and therefore weren't able to put ds (or me!) at ease at all or do anything when he got distressed. It was pretty traumatic tbh.

He was then placed on the waiting list to go the dental hospital and he went to a posh private place in York (on nhs bc nhs hospital list was too long) He had a GA and he was fine and dandy.

The experience with the dentist has put off ds going back to a dentist now. I already have a dental phobia and don't go myself. It's tricky not to show to the ds's especially when all that ^^ happened!

Hijacking a bit here, but is it now standard for children to have GA for tooth extraction? Can the dentist not just take the tooth out with a local?

If filling the tooth with a local is an option then i'm guessing she must be pretty co-operative. Therefore extracting the tooth with a local if the filling fails should also be an option.

There is also the option of sedation before a GA should be considered.
