Impetigo or chicken pox?

Dd is 5, and as far as we are aware had a mild case of chicken pox 2 years ago when it went round her nursery.
She was off school last week with tonsillitus for a start, but then she developed some spots on her face. She was very very pale and the spots were red and tbh they looked like burns They crusted over and after antibiotics she seems fine.
The first thing the doctor asked was if she had had chicken pox, to which I said yes, and thought no more of it. He diagnosed impetigo.
Now, today was dd's first day back at school, and there was a notice up saying there had been some reported cases of chicken pox. How likely is it that this is what dd had all along?
(I know it doesn't matter now anyway, I'm just curious)

My family has had both chicken pox and impetigo. From what I can remember chicken pox are definitely a spot and usually start in the chest area before spreading elsewhere.

Impetigo doesn't look like a spot, in other words, doesn't usually have a definite shape. It looks like a weeping sore and when dry it looks like it is scabbed over with brown sugar crystals and usually first appears around the nose, mouth and ears.

Antibiotics wouldn't clear up chicken pox as it is a virus. Impetigo responds to antibiotics.

Hope this helps.

DS has had both and they look very different. I feel sure your doctor will have known if it was impetigo, it is quite easily identifiable.
And antibiotics will have worked.

For future reference some tea tree oil in the bath can often help to clear up impetigo too.

it sounds like a staphylococcal aureus infection as these can look like scalds. Neesd AB treatment otherwise it can spread quite quickly. Need to get doc to give you an antibiotic like flucloxacillin and possibly some fucidin cream
