hi bit worried ds1 (just turned 1) had gastro over xmas v poorly and lost some weight then was well again. Then amost straight away his molars have started to come through and he has no appetite at all and am worried he is getting skinny. He is also very very tired - is this normal? i think so but having mild worries home alone and driving myself round the worry bend.... thanks in advance (he has suffered with his teeth since 16 weeks old and now has about 15 but the molars seem different.....)

Oh your poor DS. Sounds like he has been through the mill. My DS is younger, so no direct experience, but it doesn't sound that odd to me. DS really went through a funny eating phase for about a month with his first four top teeth coming through. I found that sometimes he needed me to give him spoon food (we've done BLW).

Have you tried offering your DS softer/cooler food to tempt his appetite?

They're resilient little things. Not like us worrying mums.

is he eating NOTHING? or just little bits here and there? what about milk/drinks? are you giving him any medicine to help with the pain?

dd has just finished getting all of her molars (they all came at once) and was completely off her food. She'd want to eat but cried and then refused to. Ibuprofen most days for about a week, or may be more (despite what it said on the bottle) was the only thing that worked. Obviously I'm not telling you t ignore the guidelines on medicine bottles, but if medicines work, use them

is he constipated at all? i only ask as dd gets constipated after a tummy bug, and constipation leads to fatigue/general misery and refusing to eat.

just realised your little one is only 1, should have said that dd is 2.4 so a bit of an age difference, and at least she could tell me what hurts. Nothing worse than your baby being upset without knowing why

ladies thanks so much. less worried today (i turned into a bit of a loon last night and was imagining the worst - sometimes google can be your worst enemy!) he eats and drinks but not as much as usual and is very very sleepy and grumpy. Give him calpol but not that often and his runs have been so bad it keeps covering the bed poor wee man

anyway all ok and thanks again

Been there, done that, got the worry t-shirt . Glad to hear you're feeling much better about things, and hope your DS is back to his usual self soon.
