9yo son was diagnosed with molluscum 6 months ago. He has them all over his stomach and are creeping up his arm! For people that do not know it is a contagious skin condition that requires no treatment and will go on its own accord within 5 years. They look like pearl type warts. They come nad go in differnt areas. Some go red and look quite sore sometimes. He has his own towel and so far none of us have caught them. Has anyone got any advice? They are so unsightly, he must have 70 or so and I am so worried of they fo to his face. So far he has been quite blaze about it but Im worried as he hets older he will be more paranoid about it.Is ther no medicine to cure them?
Thanks

My dd1 had this, but they all disappeared on their own within about 6 months. In fact, I had almost forgotten about them, although it was quite stressful at the time. No scars or anything. I think dd2 (who was born around the time she had it) got it mildly but they disappeared as well.

Sons are so unsightly. hes is literally covered in them and they are large ones. Just saw a post from a 'twolottlekings' back in ov 09. She was prescribed crystacid - id love to know the result so fthis new cream. Does stabbing them with a cocktail stick really work? I doubt he would let me near him though!

they are horrid dd2 caught them just as dd1s were clearing up so we had years of them. I think basically any miracle cures are just the thing that was tried at the time when they were clearing up anyway. But two tips we finally got hold of : a bit of dettol wiped on them or a capful in the bath; keeping them covered to stop the spread (our nursery had so many cases they insisted on arms and legs being covered and plasters on the ones on faces), actually I started to use the 'spray on plaster' stuff you can get at the chemist. don't really know if any of this is any use, but we felt the dettol helped clear them up and stop the spread.

by the way i would say they had them for two years each, most of th time not too bad, but they get worse just before they go. i don't think they are drastically contagious - they shared a bath every night for two years before dd2 caught them - but some of the nursery workers did catch them, hence the crack down

my DS1 had over 200 on his torso. All his friends thought they were warts. I worked in dermatology for a while and after GP said there was no treatment i decided to do a bit of research. One of my old dermatology books said to get a cocktail stick ,dip it iodine tincture and prick each molloscum as hard as you dare.(hold child down whilst gagging) The action of pricking them triggers them to go red and inflammed and then it sets off a chain reaction and they all disappear. They went really quickly and have left no marks.
I believe it is the action of pricking them that triggers he reaction, not the iodine. I think they said to use that as it is a strong antiseptic.
Also if you can squeeze the little waxy centre out of them, this sometimes triggers them off.

Several others have tried this and come back on the thread and said it has worked..so good luck and tsk to the doctors who have said live with it.
