CHILDS PRIMARY TEETH PANIC!

My son is 5 and and has lost a number of his primary teeth. However, I have noticed that his top front teeth are becoming almost translucent and losing their whiteness. When he lost his 1st top one there was a hole in it. Does anyone know if this is common? Am I being neurotic or am I right to panic?

no need to panic, just take him to the dentist and see what they say.

My five year old has also lost quite a few milk teeth, and the new ones are coming down not very straight.

Adult teeth, I've noticed, when they arrive are a lot less white than milk teeth, some are even quite yellow looking.

I guess this is because, as babies, when their teeth are appearing they have a diet very rich in calcium from all the milk they drink and now, as bigger kids, they don't have anywhere near as much so their teeth aren't as white.

Make sense to anyone else?

Don't panic, but make sure he is seen by a dentist. DD has weakened enamel on her front teeth (ameliogenesis imperfecta) so needs to have them coated every so often to protect them and will have veneers when she is 15. They came through similarly translucent.

It could just as easily be the contrast and they will come through fine.

Thank you for that. What I didn't make clear was that his primary teeth have lost their whiteness. Is this a normal thing before they drop out? The bottom ones didn't turn a different colour. He is due to go to the dentist next week but I am being neurotic

Milk teeth aren't designed to last and will often wear out before they fall out. A week won't make a difference so try to keep calm waiting for your appointment, but I recognise your neurosis, I have it myself- I am so paranoid about my DDs' teeth.

I wonder if they baby teeth lose their whiteness just before they fall out because their blood supply is diminishing as they wobble and get looser? I'm sure the dentist will be able to explain and hopefully put your mind at ease.
