School (not pre) booster?

Hello all,

I've just had a letter to tell me ds (4.6) needs to have an immunisation booster I'm particularly gutted because we discussed this only last week as DH has injections every 3 months and ds was commenting that he wouldn't have to have one and I said "oh no not for ages" thinking of the TB one when he's much older. (As an aside, ds insisted on watching DH have his last injection and clapping afterwards at how brave he had been - the injection was in his bum to be fair!).

Anyway, what is this jab? A bit of Googling suggests it might be the Hib booster but it sounds like that should have been done with his pre-school jab last year?

Not happy, the last one was a disaster, particularly because we turned up at the surgery on the wrong day and ds got hysterical for nothing Then when he did have it he insisted for days he hadn't been brave because he cried.

Argh, can I have this bloody booster??

does it not say in the letter what the booster is for? There isnt a jab at this age if he has already had the pre-school ones. It isnt for swine flu is it as they are starting to do them for children 6 months to 5 years?

Thanks for the reply. It really doesn't say, isn't that strange. I did see that the pharmacy nearest to us is advertising (so to speak) for swine flu jabs for children up to 5. But I would have expected it just to say if that's what it was (and probably not have a pre-booked appointment if you see what I mean?).

ds had his appointment through for the jab but it did say that it was for the H1N1 jab and gave an appointment time. Very strange not to specify which jab it is he is supposed to be having.

As an aside, the TB one is not generally given any more, unless the child comes into the higher risk categories.

Given the recent rise in TB rates, this might be a policy that gets revised.

Didn't know that, ILove! Although did see that I couldn't see it on the NHS Immunisation Schedule page.

Reading the letter again, it just says "Boosters", I'll give the surgery a call.
