Does anyone know anything about finger clubbing?

I am getting very confused as there seem to be different types

& I really know very little - so the internet is confusing me

why are you asking ?

does your dc have clubbing ?

tbh, it can be a sign of a chronic disease or just a familial thing that runs in families

we need more details, really

DD is about to start investigations for (probable) genetic chest problems - the first test she is having is for cystic fibrosis

The Dr was fascinated with her fingers and her nose (inside)

I can't look inside her nose but her fingers are at my disposal...... So I am busy checking/looking (& panicking)

She doesn't have nice fingers like me.....hers are very like DH's who also has major chest problems - but I can't see a clear picture & there seem to be so many different types

oh dear, I did think there was more to your post

finger clubbing is associated with CF

but then it is, like I said, with other illnesses and also can be an inherited finger shape (though unusual)

this is why the Dr would be very interested in her fingernails

does she have polyps up her nose ?

how old is she ?

what illness does your DH have ?

sorry, I am being nosy, no need to answer if you don't want to

tbh, googling is not likely to reassure you, just frighten you

you may be best (if you can...easier said, I know) to wait for the results of tests

Step away from google Norton.

Are they doing a sweat test for CF?

Norton · 16/01/2010 18:22

yes a sweat test mid-feb - unless the prednisilone acts quickly on her asthma - but over 10 days her peak flow has dropped by 30-40

DH has chronic atypical asthma (you may recognise his symptoms but don't 'out' me - dd doesn't know this nickname) bronchiectasis & maybe mycobacterium

She is 12 - so if she has got it - it must by definition be a very mild form (and it is likely DH has it too, in the mildest way)

I think we have chatted before (won't out you)

there are some inherited forms of bronchiectasis, and that can cause clubbing

all the best norton, it must be very worrying for you

it may not be CF, so step away from the search engines < hard stare >

Norton · 16/01/2010 18:45

I know what you are saying but there is nearly 4 weeks to the test & god knows how long until the results

DH is also awaiting major results early Feb

& I am gibbering a bit

He was asking all sorts of questions about

Her growth she has dropped from 75th centile to the 11th
Her bowels
How often she got infections

as I say he was fascinated with her nose & fingers

Did I mention I was gibbering?

AnyFucker · 16/01/2010 22:34

oops sorry for delay in reply

gibber away, but remember you can't do anything until the results are through, so no use making yourself poorly too

sweat test results are pretty quick, no more than a week I would think

the test itself can be a bit hit'n'miss though, whether you get enough sweat to test or not so be prepaared they might repeat it

if they start messing around with that...ask for gene testing, that is more reliable but the results of that can take several weeks

am so sorry you have all this worry, keeping fingers crossed it will all work out x

Norton · 17/01/2010 14:42

Of course she could just have fat finger tips

It is bad atm because she is ill & her chest is 'odd' & the steroids are not working

OP posts:
AnyFucker · 17/01/2010 14:58

good luck, and keep us posted x

Norton · 20/01/2010 19:26

Waheyyyyy

No finger clubbing - just odd shaped fingers
