DESPERATE-any tips for relieving ALOT of mucus in 13 month old before adenoids get taken out??

ds2 is getting his adenoids taken out within the next 5 weeks. Has sleep apnea, has always had a cough, always been snotty/bunged up since birth. This last week he has got increasingly worse. He is very mucusy but does NOT have a cold, not ill, last night he was stopping breathing at least hourly, choking on phlegm, coughing, retching. Took to gp today who said chest is fine, not ill. Keep doing what we are doing.

easier said than done! Im desperate for any suggestions i havent tried. Currently, his cot is propped up (he has reflux also) have a vapouriser, steamy shower doesnt do anything, olbas oil, washing on radiator, saline drops.
The snot sucker thingy doesnt do anything as it is right up the back of the nose/throat.

im paranoid that he wont restart breathing. I KNOW he can/will as he does every night but the apnea is worse. Im waiting for his ENT specialist to ring me later today to advise but not holding my breath (no pun intended)

Anyone know of anything else?

Ds got very bunged up - we took him off dairy totally, but found that goats milk was OK for him (and certainly better than cows milk products, although he's OK with cows milk now at 4.5) and also took him to a cranial osteopath, which I feel also helped.

thanks. He actually has soya milk (has digestive probs - very long story but unrelated to this!) We have also seen a cranial osteopath who is a friend and that hasnt helped either

Get your GP to prescribe him some Pseudoephedrine syrup - DS is very snotty/mucusy and had loads of problems with his chest and breathing before he was prescribed this. It really dries everything up and makes life a lot better

asked for this but gp said it would dry the mucus up and we need to make it runnier..... and ssaid it wouldnt help him...

the ent specialist rang back and prescribed anti histamine. generic piriton. Dont see how that will help

Thats weird, cos why would reducing the amount of mucus produced (it doesn't make it thicker, just reduces the amount) be bad ?

Pirion isn't going to do anything if your DS isn't allergic to anything

i know! Im so fed up with it! Feel so sorry for him

I'm sorry, don't have any suggestions myself as though DD is very snotty she is only 9 months and the things you try work a bit for us, but could you try seeing what a natural/alternative health person says? Anywhere like this near you?

mad4myboys · 15/01/2010 20:52

thats not too far from me! Never heard of it! We have taken him to see someone who does biochemistry, nutrition and allergys and she couldnt help him
