Chickenpox - advice needed please

Two days ago dd developed a raised, red, lumpy rash all over her hands and feet, which slowly spread up to her legs and bum. The dr said she was sure it was chickenpox.

The thing is it has stayed the same, hasn't spread further, and she has no spots on her torso, back or face. The spots also haven't gotten much worse, they look the same and haven't scabbed over or gone pus-y or anything, even though this is her 3rd day with them - they also don't seem to bother her. Apart from a little lethargy and loss of appetite she's happy and normal and not itching.

Could this just be a mild case of CP? Any advice or experience much, much appreciated. Thanks.

could it be hand foot and mouth rather than CP?

Hi Seona, thanks for your reply - I've never heard of hand foot and mouth - had a look on the link and I don't think she has any ulcers in her mouth (she's 15 months so won't let me look even when I try!) but definitely none around her mouth or lips, and none on her palms or the soles of her feet.......

I suppose maybe it takes longer than 3 days for the spots to blister? My Mum reckons some people don't get CP from head-to-toe, just in some localised areas...... it's funny, because I have had CP (as a child) I thought i knew what it was about but I'm realising I don't actually have a clue what to look for.

chicken pox

The above link says they blister fairly quickly:

The rash starts as small, itchy, red spots. After approximately 12-14 hours, these spots develop into fluid-filled blisters, which are intensely itchy. These blisters can also form on the palms of your hands and the soles of your feet. After one to four days, these blisters will dry out and begin to crust over. After one to two weeks, the crusting skin will fall off naturally

Hmmm, I think I might have to take her back to the Docs, just to be sure. Thanks for all your help!
