Not sure whether a cranial osteopath would help??

Hi All

My little one is 4 months old and can be very unsettled, she loves to cry! When tired she will scream blue murder and is generally just unsettled the majority of the time. Its a shame as I find myself not taking her anywhere because it's easier not to! Would you think a cranial osteopath could help?

Thanks guys

Do you know why she cries? or is it for no apparent reason? Has she been like this since birth? If so then you might get some benefit from a cranial osteopath.

I used one for DS because he had a few birthing issues and had one arm permanently bent up so his hand touched his head - it helped him a lot, IMO. I took him a few times, whenever he started to get unsettled for no apparent reason or looked "uncomfortable" (can't really explain that better) - he was always better afterwards in terms of crying/sleeping/pooing etc.

She does seem to quite tired quite a lot and definitely tells me but she is generally just quite moany and unhappy for no reason, there are times when she is very happy but it's always when we are at home so noone gets to see it. She is getting a name as a miserable baby and its driving me mad so just wondering if anything might help really. I'm not sure whether cranial osteopathy is more focused on a particular problem ie colic. The has been since birth, we thought she had colic too but it's carried on!

No, cranial osteopathy is about balancing the bod in all sorts of ways. In my DS's case, it was "relaxing" his arm and shoulder to allow his arm to come down and stay down - we suspected (borne out by his scan pic) that his arm had been up in that position for a long time in the womb as well.

Sometimes the cranial plates in a baby's head can be under pressure - DS had that as well, a sort of unicorn bump on the front of his head from where it had been pressing against the pubic bone for a long time - and the pressure can cause irritability in the baby, so releasing it => happier baby.

Give it a go - it certainly won't do any harm, it's a very gentle treatment, no crunching or cracking or anything like that.

Thanks a lot for your help, I think we will give it a go, anything is worth a try. I had a long labour and ventouse delivery so i'm wondering if that might have had something to do with it.

You talk about colic symptoms - it could be reflux.

this thread might help

My DS had reflux symptoms after a couple courses of antibiotics & we were given Infant Gaviscon by the gp which you can buy over the counter in the pharmacy, luckily it was just a temporary thing for us & i really do feel sory for anyone having to live with reflux on a daily basis.

otherwise it could be her teeth moving around - teething goes on forever & starts well before any teeth appera!

you can do lo no harm by taking her to osteo so you might as well give it a try if you can afford to do so.
