I was waiting for her to get it as her big brother had it over New year, her scalp & little lady bits were the first to show any blisters. Now the whole of her nappy area is absolutely covered in blisters, loads of them.
Seeing the doc at 11.30 as i'm very worried it'll all get infected in this area, but any one any tips to help?
My mum is bringing round a potty, but in all honesty she's too young to understand about nappy off time and not peeing & pooping everywhere.

Doc good ides. If itching bothers her pop her in the bath with a handful of porridge oats soaking in the water. really soothing. Leave her nappy free as much as you can as well.

PositiveAttitude · 13/01/2010 09:41

This could sound really weird, but from experience it is the best thing..... get an egg white and spread it over the area. If possible leave the nappy off to allow the egg white to form a protective layer over the rash. The egg white acts like a "film", so wee doesn't contaminiate the spots and also the proteins from it help the healing.

I realisse this sounds a bit "my grandmother used to...ish", but it really is brilliant with any nappy rash. Well worth giving it a go!

Cheers ladies. Just back from the docs, he took one look under her nappy and did that sucking air thing that plumbers normally do.
He's put her on antibiotics, as they're already starting to get infected.

Sudocrem was good for my DD when she had this.

Sunshine78 · 13/01/2010 13:49

when mine had it was told by a GP to put them in a bath with a good helping of bicarbonate of soda - it helps dry the spots up. Did work and kids where happier in bath so did it a couple of times a day.

columbolover · 13/01/2010 21:03

Your poor dd. Ds had it v bad - though not infected - in his nappy area. We tried aqueous cream until one day dh came home from the supermarket with the wonder cream that is Eurax - truly fab, stopped the itching right away, lasts hours at a time - ds was much more settled. Its v smelly, but worth it! Not sure if you could put it on the infected parts, but would be fine elsewhere.

nellie12 · 13/01/2010 21:09

metatanium worked for us. it puts a barrier between the spots and "nappy contents" so prevented infection - at least thats my theory.

Arabica · 13/01/2010 21:38

DD just had this--GP found she had thrush as well and we therefore had to alternate an anti-fungal cream with the antibiotic one. Did the trick and she is much happier now. So it's always worth getting it checked out.

alypaly · 13/01/2010 23:39

metatanium is vey good as a barrier like nellie said.Plenty of calpol as it sounds as though it is in her gastro intestinal tract. Is it around the vulva too. DS1 had it all inside his willy...he screamed the place down when he peed

Dillie · 13/01/2010 23:55

My dd is just getting over hers. Although she is older (4) she had some in her lady bits too, and every time she wee'd i had to rush her off the toilet to rinse her bits to ease the sting.

I found a mix of puriton, calpol and bi-carb soda baths a HUGE help! Plus the calamine cream worked great too.

I hope she is feeling better soon

fiveisanawfullybignumber · 14/01/2010 08:44

Thanks ladies, alypaly yes it's everywhere!
Out of all 4 of mine, this is the worst i've ever seen it. I normaly keep metanium in but it's dragging the skin too much for her.
We're using piriton, calpol, lashings of calamine & aqueous cream and some bicarb baths.
Just spoken to docs to ask for different antibiotics as she throws up within a minute of taking her current one.
I just hate it when they're so poorly, wish it could be me instead.

five...you might find its in her mouth too. DS1 had it all in his mouth and throat and doc said it would be all through his gut. He must have been in awful pain. 10 days and she will be through the worst

fiveisanawfullybignumber · 15/01/2010 09:59

Hi alypaly, yes it's in her mouth and throat too. She woke up with a raging temp this morning, so done calpol, piriton, antibiotics and a bicarb bath. She's had some bread and grapes, and half a bottle just now, then back to sleep in my arms. She's very lethargic today.
Hopefully she'll be over the worst soon, but more spots keep appearing.
I'm off for a nap too, as 23 wks PG with DC no 5 and tired as well.

dd just had chicken pox, including badly in the nappy area, our nurse said a large handfull of salt in the bath - seemed to work well, and kept her covered with zinc cream (the extra thick 10% zinc one from the pharmacy, fot sudocream)

alypaly · 15/01/2010 15:29

unfortunately there is nothing you can do with them in the mouth other than cool drinks. Poor her...and you

fiveisanawfullybignumber · 16/01/2010 10:35

Thet're also in her ears and on her eyelids now.
Hopefully she'll be over the worst soon, she was a very sad little girl yesterday, but has perked up a bit today, probably because daddy is home with her now. She's a real daddys girl!

So sorry your dd is having such a horrid time.

Just to reassure you - my dd2 had really bad chickenpox blisters all over her nappy area, to the extent that I was worried she would be left permanently scarred by them. But they eventually cleared up completely and she doesn't have a single scar.

Hope she's on the mend really soon.

fiveisanawfullybignumber · 16/01/2010 11:00

Thanks fatsatsuma. I know she'll be on the mend soon, but she just looks so uncomfortable. Screams every time she wees or poos. The whole area is red, even the odd patch of skin with no spots.
She's definitely had the worst case out of all my 4.

Awww bless her sounds very like our little girl when she had the pox,we bathed her in oilatum then covered her in aveeno cream,Both treatments used for eczema but can both be bought in boots, these combined with regular calpol and nurofen overlapping and piriton helped get her through it,also keeping the worst parts cool help as the heat makes them flar eup and itch more.
Anothe rthing my sis swears by is talcum powder sprinkled on the spots as it dries them out.

choufleur · 16/01/2010 19:49

Put her in the bath with a bag of oats (bog standard porridge oats). tie them up in a muslin cloth and let it soak for a bit before she gets in. DS had the pox quite badly and it was the best thing.

Use aqueous cream mixed with calamine afterwards to keep the itching down and skin moisturised.

fiveisanawfullybignumber · 19/01/2010 13:43

Thanks ladies. The last blister came out on sunday so i think we're over the worst now.
Bicarb baths and lashings of calamine cream seemed to be the answer so far.
The ones in her nappy area are still raw though, every time she poos it takes the top of the scab, they look like lots of little mouth ulcers. Now using Metanium on them to try and heal them up some more.
She had her 1st proper meal for over a week last night, thai green curry with rice and naan bread, unusual I know but she scarfed down a big bowl full. I've had to be pretty quick with the nappy changes today though.
Thanks again for all your advice.
