13 month old ds2 has sleep apnea and he is booked in to have his enlarged adenoids out (ENT say he has moderate tonsils but due to age just adenoids for now out) He has had this since birth, has had sleep studys, he also has been like he has a cold all his life despite testing foods. What I want to know if anyone has had a LO this young that has had them out/enlarged as he has a cough at night and he seems to choke alot like he has too much spit? Just wondering if anyone elses has had this?

Ds had his out At 26months so not as young, but similar in that streaming nose, horrendous glue ear(significant hearing loss), constant dribble due to mouth breathing and sleep apnoea.
He recovered quickly and symptoms are much reduced, he had grommets at the same time and they left his tonsils in even though they were "massive" as were not problematic.
He still mouth breathes and snores, and has nasal speech but hoping this will improve with time.
Oh and his night cough has reduced and his asthma is now non problematic
Hth any other questions, and I will try to answer.

Yes coughing fits at night, very phlegmy, often sick as well - we have NONe of that now

The dribble was so bad he was wearing a bib up to the day of the operation

trouble is he has bad reflux too so im not sure this is down to reflux or the adenoid issue or not. It seems to be getting worse. Last niight he was waking about every other hour, his nose was getting bunged up, choking, gaging...

My ds did not have reflux so cannot comment on that, all I can say is Ds did have those symptoms and they have dramatically improved since surgery.
And from what I know the reflux would not cause a problem with sleep apnoea

thanks. Cant find much on adenoid issues/removal on children this young. I think alot of his problems have been put down to reflux but never got better despite max strength meds and im hoping as they now agree to take adenoids out because of how much it interfers with his sleep we may get somewhere

Hi. My DS had his enlarged adenoid removed and grommets in at same time when he was 18 months. It literally changed his life ( and ours). He'd pretty much constantly had green running nose ( sorry, gross i know) and repeated ear infections until then. The surgery was so quick, he was home that night and we noticed an immediate improvement.
He's due to have tonsills out this week (see other post) and part of me wishes that they had done them at the same time)

plesase let me know if you ahve any questions..

thanks, they havent mentioned grommets.. i keep hearing (boom boom) that grommets in and usually adenoids/tonsils out at the same time. I havent noticed anything wrong with his hearing.. or is it generally down to recurrent ear infections they have grommets?

Yes, his hearing was suffering and consequently his speech was not brilliant He had repeated ear infections, hence the grommets. His consultant did say that the whole ear/nose/throat area is so connected (especially the smaller you are) that it's v common to have both problems. We didn't know how enlarged his adenoids were until they were taken out, but it was literally like someone turned off a tap!

I hope you get some answers and/or progress soon - we had to push to get the consultant referral, but once we met him he was brilliant. Good luck.

thanks. Im guessing i wouldve noticed a hearing problem even at this age? He responds when called...

ds1 is 3.6 and has very very bad apnea and they are questioning if non obstructive but im positive its adenoids. Exactly the same as ds2 as a baby aswell...hes had ear infections and im not sure about his hearing...ive asked the gp and she advised hes fine. He doesnt respond all the time when i call him but then i know alot that age dont if they are engrossed in something. Also he doesnt like loud noises like the hoover etc...not really sure what to make of it. I guess i go on the gp?
