Hi, I live on a military base in Japan, and only get military health care, so I don't know if I'm getting the best answers. My baby girl started getting this blood spot on her chin around Nov. 5th and it has gotten pretty unsightly. I attached a link that has a beginning and current picture. It doesn't seem to bother her, but it just looks so bad and if it's something that really needs to get looked at by a dermatologist, I wouldn't know, bc the pediatrician just said to let it go. Please let me know if you've seen anything like this or any other advice you can give me. Thank you!

How old is your girl eblunt?

It could be a strawberry mark, DS is 2.7 years and has one the size of a coin on his forehead! They are absolutely nothing to worry about and although they can grow they do disappear. DO NOT GOOGLE IMAGE strawberry marks though,

I've cut and pasted some info below:

Strawberry mark (capillary haemangioma)
About one in 10 babies will develop a strawberry mark during the first couple of months after birth. These birthmarks get their name because sometimes they look similar to a strawberry. They can appear anywhere on the skin, but six out of 10 are found on the face or neck. They start off as a small, red patch which increases in size over about three to nine months and becomes a bright, red lump. It then stops growing and slowly shrinks.

You may be worried about your child's strawberry mark, but most won't need any treatment and gradually disappear over time. As a guide:

three out of 10 have gone by the time the child is three years old five out of 10 have gone by the time the child is five years old seven out of 10 have gone by the time the child is seven years old

Oh and forgot to add, maybe you should go to see a DR just to get it checked out?

Hello - I am not a doctor but this looks like a strawberry haemangioma to me. These usually start within the first few weeks of birth as tiny spots and grow to a certain size before starting to reduce again - most are gone by the time the child is 2 or 3 and they rarely need any cosmetic treatment.

They are non-cancerous.

They are quite common in fair skinned babies and I belive premature babies are more prone to them.
Hope that helps - maybe an MN doctor/GP will look in to confirm.

There's a bit of info here

As Wattinger says - don't google it as the only images are really severe ones - my link is just a general one about birthmarks.

hi, my dd had one of these that started at 10 months. it was a tiny red dot then got bigger and bigger. it was just under her eye and became a large blood filled sac. one night after abut 5 months she must have knocked it while sleepin. it fell off nd blood was everywhere but that was the end of it. no scar, no red mark, apart from the pictures we have it is like it was never there

here are the pictures of my dd's face at beggining and towards end.
