How much water for a 2 yr old?

How much water should a 2yr old be drinking?

DD1 is 28 months old, and has perhaps a glass a day at the most. Other times she has either milk, or just does not want a drink. She does like orange squash and orange juice but I restrict these so she doesn't have it very much at all.

How much water should they be drinking at this age?

As much as they need. Just make sure there is always some on offer.

She will be getting the water she needs from the milk she drinks and the food she eats that contain water, so it's not necessarily a problem if she doesn't actually drink much water on its own. Just make sure it's always there.

Mine just had milk or diluted juice in the day and water overnight

Yes, it doesn't have to be water, although if they will drink it that's great. My DD (2.9) has kidney problems, and her consultant says that it's the amount of fluid, not the type that matters. She has around 5-6 180ml cups daily (yes, I am a bit anal about this but with good reason), mostly milk or diluted juice, and apparently that's plenty.

My DS 25mo varies the amount he drinks. If he is having a day where he isn't drinking much I encourage him by playing 'cheers'... a game in which we bang cups together, shout cheers, take a big drink and then make a loud, satisfied 'aaaaaaah' sound. He loves it, mad boy! I also find he drinks more if I let him drink from a pint glass .

Ooo, I like the idea of the cheers game, will give that a try I think.

She does like her milk and also loves fruit, so hopefully is getting enough water that way.

DD2 loves the stuff so just thought I'd encourage DD1 to do the same.

Thanks!
