Dioralyte for 6 months old - Lulamama?

DD has had diarrhoea since Tues am, been checked out by GP twice, who prescribed dioralyte sachets.
Prescription note just read: ONE sachet as required, but on reading the leaflet inside, it says that the amount depends on how much the baby weighs, usually 1 - 1.5 x the amount of fluid the baby has normally in 24 hours.

I prepared a sachet yesterday following normal child instructions : one sachet in 7oz cooled boiled water. DD took 2oz and wouldn't take anymore.

But why didn't the prescription note on the front of the box mention anything about amounts depending on the baby's weight?

And how am i supposed to know how much my baby takes anyway given that she's exclusively breastfed?

Now very worried about yesterday's dose in case it was too much. Anybody any idea?

Lulamama you don't 'know' me but I've read your posts and was wondering if you could help ? [hopeful emoticon]

Incandescent at least she only took 2oz though of course it would have been a more concentrated dose than perhaps she should have had but I doubt it will harm her. Can you call your local On Duty pharmacy? In my experience they know much more about medications than GPs.

Also, is DD bf normally? When he was about 18 months DS had an ongoing vomiting bug & we had to take him to A & E where he was throughly checked out. Rather refreshingly, rather than being shocked I was still bf him, a lovely African doctor told me that breast milk was better than dioralyte and to just keep feeding him as much possible.

How old is your DD?

Thanks House, DD is 6.5 months. I'll find out which pharmacy is off duty in my area tonight, good idea, thanks.

DD 'snacking' on the breast, rather than feeding normally, but has been very happy and playful today (as opposed to Wed, when we took her to A & E bc she lost all her colouring and was obviously very distressed). So I don't think the Dioralyte has harmed her, but obviously, I'm concerned...

Snacking's good, I'd say. Bit like a sipping water little and often.

Hope she gets better soon.
