ds1 is 3.6, when he turned about 18 months he started to not sleep that great despite always been good sleeper, sleeping through etc. To cut a long story short, we saw ENT specialist last summer as his apena which hes had since birth got particularly bad so he arranged sleep study. This showed apnea episodes and drop in SATS levels but that its inconclusive. At the time he said 'possible' adenoids but his tonsils were barely noticeable so didnt think would be a problem. We saw him again yesterday and he hadnt had the results of the sleep study and said he needed to look over them and would call me next week (ds2 is having his adenoids out) to discuss what he will do. He said perhaps adenoids but more likely to be non obstructive apnea but he IS showing signs of it being obstructive....

any one know anything about NON obstructive? He said it involves using breathing apparatus at night but there is NO way he would keep it on! Really worried now

that sounds to me like he will need a CPAP machine that adults with sleep apnea wear. If his adenoids are enlarged then they could be the cause.

im pretty sure it is down to adenoids (from research and his symptoms) but it is getting worse as he gets older. Really worrying!

once his adenoids are out and he has fully recovered (he will have a blocked nose for about a week post-op) you will have a better idea then.

its ds2 who is 1 that they are def taking the adenoids out, with ds1 he is questioning it being non obstructive which im very confused about!

Hi, it could still be Adenoids and I would try and push them to investigate this further. They can check Adenoids out with a special torch.

My four year old recently has grommets inserted - I asked about them removing her Adenoids (due to snorning, disturbed sleep and night sweats). I was told that there wouldn't be a problem with her Adenoids as her Tonsils were fine. When I went to collect her from the recovery room after the grommet op I was told that they had to remove her Adenoids as well as they were very obstructive and enlarged. They explained that Adenoids can become enlarged without the Tonsils being enlarged, but that they are normally linked. Hope you get sorted soon, goodluck
