2yr old scratching herself raw but not ezcema...?

My 26 month old scratches herself raw (mainly on tummy and legs) as soon as she gets undressed for bath or changing in morning out of pjs etc.
The skins isn't dry, red or scaly so I really don't think that it is ezcema but I clearly could be wrong.

I have thought about all the obvious things like changing washing powder etc but worried now as she really is hurting herself.

Any advice please?!!

Thanks.

do either of your children have rashes or any other health problems. do they have dermographism wher if you scratch the skin it forms araised wheel where you run your nail on their skin... Just interested as i use dto work in dermatology.

Have you tried calamine in aqueous cream on those area at night.

Some people get pruritis due to cold or heat so it could be that

I haven't tried any creams other than Weleda Baby moisturiser which helps the redness of where she has scratched and healing the scabs but isn't stopping further scratching. Older daughter (4 yrs) has never had any rashes or other health problems though husband intolerant to wheat and dairy and it was bound to come out in one of the girls I suppose!

Will try the eumovate cream and see if that helps.

TBH,I'd check with your GP about using eumovate on such young kids. (But don't worry if you've already done it.) It's possibly a wee bit strong (it's a modererately potent steroid) if there really is no sign of eczema. It WILL help itching-all steroids do-but there may be a better way to solve this without risking side effects from the steroid cream. Best check first, is all I'm saying.

leonie if you are going to use it on her only use a small amount and not for very long..7 days max)just as a guide line a child of 4years old needs abouta third of the adult amount......It will mix witth E45 or aqueous cream. If in doubt ask doc.for dosage
