my ds has been getting constipated for about 2 weeks now. he is in severe pain for about 1 hour before he eventually passes something. i have no experience of this as this is the first time it has ever happened to him. his diet hasnt changed so it cant be that. the only thing different is he had an ear infection 1 month ago that had to be treated with antibiotics. would this effect his bowel habits?

Not sure about the cause but if he has had antibs I would suggest giving a month on acidophilus (probiotic powder) to help his gut flora as antibs can cause as many problems as they solve (albeit they are required).

Perhaps during the cold/ear infection his body got dehydrated and dried out the bowel?

I posted yesterday as dd gets very constipated and I have tried everything from diet to laclolose to even senna (doc prescribed which I hated).

She had her first course of antibs in a year a few weeks back so I put her back on the acidophilus and bingo, constripation is gone! The powder is specifically designed for infants and is much stronger than those yogurts which I hold very little stock in.

Solgar do one called ABCdophilus, I get it at a good local health shop and make sure it's been kept in thr fridge. Half a teaspoon in milk or juice or yogurt but don't heat it. If you heat the milk put it in afterwards. Minimum a month I was told, will hopefully also help ward off other infections.

Hope it works for you x
