Can I give my dd adults paracetamol?

The instructions say from age 12 and she is 10, however a doctor friend told me years ago that it's done on weight rather than age. DD1 is very tall and whilst not overweight, she's not skinny either. She's had a horrible headache for a day or two on and off and 6+ calpol is helping a bit, but I just wondered if I could give her normal paracetamol or is this completely mad?

I have given my dd adult paracetamol before and she is almost 10.

I gave her half crushed in a spoon with a drink and it really helped her.

You can give her one paracetamol tablet (500mg) every 4-6 hours. It is the equivalent of 2 teaspoons (10mls) of Calpol 6+.

You can give adult paracetamol from the age of 6, just not an adult dose. From age 6 (it says on my packet) they can have half to one tablet.

Wow I thought I was going to be flamed for drugging my dd! Thank you all, I'll go and get some today.

yep you can. It's still the same stuff as in children's paracetamol, you just need to give a smaller dose.

coldtits · 30/12/2009 10:49

It's only solidified calpol.

I hate to be the voice of caution, but if she's had a headache for more than 24 hours, then I'd be popping to the GPs just to give her a once over, unless, of course, she's prone to headaches/migraines, or you know what's causing it!

Thanks Pixie - I'm beginning to think that myself. She was fine this afternoon, but then it started again an hour ago so it's not been continuous. If she's like this tomorrow I'll ring the doctors.
