Sucking bottom lip

Ds is 3 and a half and is increasingly sucking/biting his bottom lip, especially when tired and seemingly almost all the time when asleep. I've noticed he has quite an overbite now and the bottom teeth are clearly angled inwards. We are off to the dentist anyway next week, but I wondered if anyone has any experience of this and what they did (if anything). He seems so young to have it corrected and obviously still has his baby teeth, but on the other hand it is having quite a clear effect on his jaw.

I don't think, unfortunately, they will do anything to milk teeth unless he is seriously unable to eat.

Obviously you already know he will need braces when he gets older (and they often start this around 8/9 if the problem is bad) and therefore I don't think there's a lot you can do apart from discouraging him from sucking his bottom lip.

If you post on behaviour/development I'm sure somebody will have some experience about weaning him off this

By the way. . .he will probably get his orthodontic treatment free as it is already obvious, no mean feat - well done!

My friend uses the stuff to stop people biting their nails when she stops bfing (she feeds her dcs until nearly three and so this is her preferred method). How about putting a little just under the bottom lip?

Thank you, I will copy it to behaviour and development too. Will also look out for the repellent stuff to put under his lip.
