any one have a DC with a large mole?

My DD 3mths has a mole the size of a 2p on her ankle.
It is usually totally smooth but on xmas eve half of it looked like it had a rash under the skin. Then next day the whole surface of the mole was bobbly - now it is leathery and has a slight scabbyness to it.

I've taken her to GP today who said it's fine - just moisturise it, but I'm not convinced.

Any one have any experience with moles doing this?

Hi, not my own children, but I had a mole on the side of my head when I was a child and it was just left, until recently when I decided it was best if I just have it removed. I noticed it had risen slightly, there was nothing wrong with it or reason for concern at all but I stated that I'd rather just have it removed and the GP refered me and it was removed a few weeks later.

I would get a 2nd opinion, and keep pushing until you are satisfied.

I don't have the experience of it, but I am covered in smaller moles ( like is my father) and went a couple years ago to a quite renowned dermatologist to have a few suspicious looking ones checked out. Anyway, they were ok, but I mentioned DS having a few in strange places ( heel of the foot etc) and she said if you think they are strange looking/ change in appearance, you should take him to a dermatologist pronto, as in kids especially it can be more dangerous/ develop faster if it's cancer.
So, maybe it would be a good idea to do that, as dermatologist will be able to look at it under a special lamp that GP does not have.
On the other hand it is extremely unlikely it's anything serious at this age and they babies are often born with strange birthmarks etc.
What colour is it?

hmm i have the same problem, and had posted before. DD (5) has a very large mole on her forehead that takes up maybe a third of the forehead. it was flat until earlier this year and seems to be getting more and more raised. it also developed bumps and got scabbed and i took her to a dermatologist in panic. actually i posted before on this. she suggested seeing a paed surgeon to remove it and he suggested going to a plastic surgeon as it is on her face. besides those 3, i also consulted a general surgeon and my family gp, and also DD's regular paed, and basically all of them said while it was not a cause for immediate concern now, it would probably need to be removed at some point, whether sooner or later, due to cancer concerns, as well as self esteem issues.

i think if u search for large mole threads, you'll find my old one, several mumsnetters came on sharing their experiences of removing large moles, with positive outcomes. we were scheduled to remove DD's but in the end we could not afford to do it this year (we are not in the UK and had wanted to do it at a private hospital), and we postponed it indefinitely. anyway, DD's been diagnosed with leukaemia this week, and we are undergoing treatment now, so I suppose we'll have to remove it after that.

anyway, sorry to ramble, i hope this was helpful in some small way...do update us on how your DD does...

sorry, i mentioned i'd posted before, 3 times...am a bit distracted with DD's latest diagnosis

hazlinh sorry to hear about your DD.
thanks for taking the time to reply at what must be a very stressful time for you.

it does actually look slightly better today - less scabby but lighter in colour in these areas.
i think i'll give it a few more days to see if\it improves further and if not go back to gp.
i think i'll ask about removal as i'm sure it's better to get it done than worry constantly.
tanks again and best wishes for your dd
