could my DD1 be suffering with eczema?

She's 2 and has always had quite rough skin, on her cheeks, the backs of her arms and down the sides of her legs, they almost look like lots and lots of tiny red pimples. I use Oilatum in her bath and moisturise with organic babies baby salve but it never seems to make much difference to her skin.

This morning I noticed a big angry red patch on the outside of her elbow, it's about 6" long and 3" wide. She was complaining that it hurt earlier. We haven't changed detergent or anything for a while.

The doctors are closed today so I can't have it looked at.

I was wondering if there was anything I could do at home or get from the chemist to help her symptoms

Does this sound like eczema?

I used the steroid cream on DD twice and it healed up the angry redness where she had scratched and now it seems manageable just using the moisturiser. I would steer away from E45 and most other similar creams. Moisturisation is the answer if it is eczema - that keeps it at bay (if it is only mild at least).

It is Balneum Plus cream alypaly. So far she hasn't complained when we've put it on her. Her skin is definitely improved somewhat. But I still don't trust my doctor.

thank you again kbear, I'll avoid E45 then.

I told my Dad about it and he's so upset. He wants us to rehome our cat and dog. Whenever he stays here he always ends up wheezing (asthma) and itching , he's put up with it for yrs and never complained about the pets because he knows we make a massive effort to dust and hoover before he comes but now it could be affecting his granddaughter it's a different matter!

I've noticed lots of spots on her tummy, could she be reacting to it?

she could be...have you actually put it on her tummy or has it rubbed off her arm onto her body

I've been putting on all over her. The spots have gone down now, it's v odd.
