When, if ever, do I need to worry about 2.8yo ds's feet?

He pronates (rolls inwards) like anything when he walks. When he was little he always had new Clarks but the last year he's spent 99% barefoot (it's the subtropics here) or in gumboots. His feet look a little flat but to my inexperienced eye it seems to be that his feet are still covered in baby fat - the arches are high enough on top, it's just the pronounced rolling in that I wonder if I should act on. Any clues, anyone?

My DD (21 months) has quite severe pronated ankles when she puts weight on them, so much so that her inner ankle bones touch the floor.

She cannot walk unaided (just out of interest when did you DS walk?) but can now cruise and stand alone for short periods of time.

We have been seeing a paediatric physiotherapist for about 9 months now and finally have our appointment through for an orthotics appoinmtent where she will be fitted for an AFO (ankle-foot orthosis) which will hopefully hold her ankle in the correct position.

My DD also has hypermobility and hypotonia, I think it would definately be worth getting your son seen by a physio or a paediatrician.

mmm trying to figure out how I know if I should be worried, iykwim, or am I just being PFB about it? Do they all look a little flat-footed at this stage?

Hypermobility? Ds has this and is very pronounced in his ankles. One foot rolled outwards very badly so he needed physio to correct it. He has orthotics in his shoes and for a couple of years he had to wear shoes all the time - indoors and out - to support his feet/ankles.

huh truth, that sounds much worse than ds. He walked about 13m iirc.

I think I would still get it checked out if I was you, if it is some sort of hypermobility or flat feet then I am sure I read somewhere that before the age of 5 is the best time to get some sort of treatment as after then it becomes much harder to get their joints into the correct positions.
