My little girl is almost 3 and normally has a bowel movement every day with no problems. However she has not been for four days and keeps screaming and holding her bottom.
when she last went it was hard and extremely painful. We are in France for xmas so I really do not know what to do. Cannot bear to see her like this.
She has had honey and fruit also her cousin's lactulose and warm baths. she is back in nappies as she will not sit on the potty now. Anyone have any ideas or knows the franch system?

She is drinking and weeing normally. It is the poo we are all struggling with. But thank you ben5 it is good to hear from someone. Just wish we were at home this would be so much easier.

I know it's a yucky job but putting vaseline on her bum will help poo slide out easier, especially if it's hard.
Hope she is feeling better soon.

Thank you. Have tried this too.
She plays normally but then suddenly screams. Am going to try the chemist to see if they can help. Thats if we can make ourselves understood! Wish us luck.

Hey, I have nannied over in France so this is what i would do. As you said go to the pharmasist (I will be here for a little while if you want me to write some translations down?)The pharmasist will be able to (hopefully) recommend something. If they can't they will be able to give you information of the closest doctors surgery and they may well phone to book an appointmnet for you.

Claire2301 · 26/12/2009 09:37

To the doctors you will need to take some ID with you along with health insurance/E111 cards. A doctors visist in France can cost between ?20-60. Children's where I lived was ?45. Hope you get this sorted soon

flumperoo · 26/12/2009 09:38

I would highly recommend Movicol if you can get that.

Hope she's better soon.

When DD is a bit constipated I give har a small bit of chocolate and it makes her need to go.

I have also heard people say orange juice works too. Hope she feels better soon.

Orange Juice often helps
Better still are prunes, figs, raisins etc

Try making a fruit cake or flapjack with prunes in it to give her as a snack during the next few days

Paediatric glycerine suppositories work brilliantly in this situation. If it is a really hard solid poo, nothing given by mouth is going to work.

Have been given Forlax by chemist so we shall see. If not will go to doctor with her.

My daughter has long term constipation problems. Try and get Movicol paediatric sachets. That should sort it out. IN UK you need a prescription to get it. Or a suppository. Have a look at this website.

Try sitting on the loo and blowing bubbles.
Try after eating a meal.
Sometimes a warm bath helps.
Massage tummy in a clockwise direction.
Lie your DD on the floor and get her to do cycling action with her legs, even better if you control the legs.

just go to the chemist and get her a laxative over the counter unless you feel you need a doc. sounds like she has a bit if impaction which is hurting he.

'Purgatif 'is french for a laxative and for a strong one it is 'purgatif drastique.'

they wont have movicol as a brand but they will have the french equivalent which you can buy over the counter. So if you ask for the generic ,which is macrogol 6.9 grams as the 13.8 is for adults.

Will she drink fresh pineapple juice as that is a brilliant natural laxative

She has 'been' at last!! Thank you all for your suggestions. Just hope it doesn't happen again. But if it does I have all the above advice to use.
