5 week old DD2 has only done 1 poo in the last 48 hours, and that was apparently massive and more like runny mustard (as opposed to the frequent small grainy mustard ones she has done normally) Plenty of wet nappies, normal skin colour, head hole (is it called a fontanelle?) is normal, seems to be feeding fine although having longer feeds further apart. Only other matter for concern is she was really unsettled last night, crying unless she was either feeding or being jiggled about and sung to, but she is always a bit funny in the evenings anyway.

Breastfed on demand, co-sleeping, planned section but no problems.

Am I right in thinking this is just one of those things?

3 of mine were bf and they all had differing poo patterns (cant think of another way of putting it!).

They could go for 2-3 days without a poo or do 3 a day.

When my older two were babies they used to tell you to give them some orange juice on a teaspoon. I doubt they tell you that now though

Dd3could go days with no poo. Don't worry. Bf babies digest the milk very efficiently so there is very little waste.

My DS2 went every ten days till he was ten months old.

ilovemydogandmrobama · 26/12/2009 19:14

DS once didn't go for 11 days .

And when I called NHS direct for advice, yup, you guessed it. The nurse on the other end of the phone was laughing hysterically as it was all audible and very obvious.

With breast milk, afaik, the baby absorbs so much that there is little waste so poos can be few and far between.
