She's not seriously ill but since monday she has not been right, she was a little bit sick sunday night and since then has had mild runs and been off her food, also very clingy, not wanting to go and play and falling asleep every afternoon (she dropped her nap about 6 months ago).
She is also a bit blotchy, has some faint red spots on her cheek and arms and legs, just a slight rash type (goes under pressure)

Yesterday we went to soft play and after about half an hour she just wanted to sit on my lap and then exploded in her nappy, today she has had really runny nappies and has barely eaten, even choc was refused, but she did ask for and eat a banana and some cocktail sausages.

Lots of water going down but it seems to be getting worse instead of better. DO I wait over the weekend to see or shall I take her to out of hours tomorrow morning? If it wasn't christmas I would take her for a once over but it will be a nightmare atm.

JackTheHalls - my DD (2.3) had a similar thing going on with v high temperature. She was really unwell yesterday so I tried to call NHS. Ended up doing the initial assessment thing online but got a call back within 15 minutes. Really helpful nurse (male) talked me through all symptoms etc and told me that there is quite a nasty stomach bug thing going around at the moment - very catching and nasty.

He did also say that if I'd phoned the flu pandemic line with all her symptoms they'd have prescribed Tamiflu as hard to judge etc.

Soooo, I don't think you were over-reacting by wanting to see/speak to a doctor. And, hopefully, it was a stomach bug and your DD is better now. Mine is much better today although still not 100%.

To those of you who would never consult a doctor in these circumstances - lucky you to have such a sanguine approach to your child's wellbeing. Not something I share, unfortunately.

bellissima · 26/12/2009 14:18

I would also seek advice, and don't blame you for worrying.

Oh and - Snorter when I lived on the Continent it was much easier to see a doctor at the evening/weekends and even get a house call out of hours, without depriving anybody else. And they don't earn nearly as much as UK GPs. The slight difference is that they get paid when they see the patient - so they make rather more of an effort to do so.

JackTheHallsWithBauersOfHolly · 26/12/2009 16:09

Thanks guys, now I can text friends it does seem as if there is a nasty bug going round, but they all got bad over last 24-48 hours so I didn't know.

I do have previous experience of taking ill DD's to ooh dr and did type it all out to defend myself but I can't be arsed. Its not good coverage where I live, lets just leave it at that

Hmmm sorry this is probably very unhelpful but can I just ask why you took her to soft play when she was clearly unwell? She's probably passed her bug on to other children now and I am sure their parents wouldn't thank you for that. I know that I'm always pretty p'd off to see sick children at play groups etc.

Hope she is better already.

Heilig, my post of Sat 26-Dec-09 12:53:20 shoudl answer your not helpful query.

Why do people have to be so judgey?

HeiligFeierabend, if that is your real name, if you want to be critical, why not go over to AIBU? You can be as nasty as you like there. I might suggest that getting on your high horse on a post about ill children is a bit tasteless, don't you think?

Jack has already answered that one, so maybe read the thread next time before jumping in with your ever so important view, hmm?

How is she, Jack?

JackTheHallsWithBauersOfHolly · 26/12/2009 17:05

It's okay Pixie, I'm getting used to it It's like the fucking twilight zone on this thread.
I have to keep checking I didn't accidentally post in AIBU, but no, this is Children's Health

TBH she isn't good, she was okay this morning until and then went all clingy and fell asleep again. Nappy looking a bit better but I can't get enough liquid in her today.
She's on top of me trying to get back to sleep but I want her to try and eat something.

PixieOnaChristmasTree · 26/12/2009 17:16

You know what? I would phone 'bloody' NHS Direct. She doesn't sound good to me and she's been ill for more than 24 hours now, hasn't she?

The posters on here make me angry - I understand now why MN sometimes has a bad reputation.

SleighBelleDameSansMerci · 26/12/2009 17:27

Jack not sure if this is helpful but my DD was much better this morning then returned to clingy-ness. Fell asleep on me for about two hours and has woken up a lot better but still not back to her normal self. Not as clingy but still wanting mummy all the time.

It's sounding very similar. NHS Direct were great with me yesterday.

Hope your DD is better soon.

Snorter · 26/12/2009 18:21

Gosh, I didn't expect to be shot down in flames either!!
Jack, I wasn't getting at you, honestly. It was a real question about house calls. I though the "unsure" face showed that, but obviously I judged it wrong. Sorry.
Pass me the vodka.

blinks · 26/12/2009 18:37

with blanching rash on cheeks and limbs, it could be a few things- a simple virus or something clearer like hand foot and mouth... check palms and soles for HF&M.

as she's not getting better and it's 6-7 days that she's been poorly, i don't think you'd be over-reacting in getting her assessed.

i work at NHS24 and no-one there would think you'd be wasting anyone's time... if the rash is blanching, you might not get an immediate response if the service is busy but if they thought she needed looked at by a GP, they'd arrange it without a problem.

how old is she?

JackTheHallsWithBauersOfHolly · 26/12/2009 20:00

S'ok Snorter It's all good

my dd has been ill for a few weeks now

low fever , feels like shite , snotty , cough no appetite

she's 18 on thursday so I am not overly worried but this bug does seem to linger for ages if that's any reassurance

BlueBumedFly · 26/12/2009 20:26

Jack - ge her checked out if you can and I am sending over some red wine, no vodka or whiskey here. We took DD to thr docs twice last week and then hospital, 24 hours later she gets pleurisy!! I had to stamp my feet and jump up and down to get the right attention as I knew as a mummy that she needed medical attention.

Just write on your fridge 'as a mother I reserve the right to take my kids to he doctor as and when I feel they need attention' ..... 99 times out of 100 your will be right. Hope she feels better soon x

HeiligFeierabend · 27/12/2009 20:18

Sorry but I thought I had a point worth making. No need to be rude. Happy Christmas everyone.

HeiligFeierabend · 27/12/2009 20:20

And I am 'judgey' because my dd tends to get febrile convulsions so people knowingly sending their sick child to playgroups etc. potentially means a trip or two to A&E in the middle of the night and it's no fun.

JackTheHallsWithBauersOfHolly · 27/12/2009 21:46

As I have already stated on this thread I didn't know she was still ill as she had eaten okay the night before, slept through the night and then was fine/alert/ herself the next morning so I thought we would get out after being stuck in the house for days. All she had had was dodgy nappies and a bit tired up to this point.
The rash and other stuff started that evening, so again, after I had unknowingly infected half of the South wales area. I have put on my hair shirt and beaten myself with a large stuick already.

Sorry, bit ranty, but I had already explained this, and already been asked about taking her, and I would never knowingly take a sick child anywhere other than the dr's so anyone else lurking wanting to take a potshot just give me a fucking break, ok?

Luckily today she is better but now DD1 has the same

BlueBumedFly · 27/12/2009 21:57

tots2ten · 27/12/2009 22:08

Shit your getting alot of flack. Glad dd2 is better, bugger about dd1. You should get a black cross for your front door, I can lend you mine Hopefully I have finished with it

ds1 infected half his class with chicken pox, (in my defense I didnt know he had it)

I also sent dd1 into school with chicken pox, she didnt tell me she has a rash.

dd2 went into school and came home in the afternoon, really ill, bad stomach cramps. Like your dd mine was fine in the morning.

JackTheHallsWithBauersOfHolly · 27/12/2009 22:19

Well none of yours infected mine, so that's all good tots

anymore blue? That's nice virtual wine!
