in an ambulance with DH. Probably croup but his breathing was very laboured and rattly and intermittant. DD1 & 2 asleep upstairs; paramedics said to wait a couple of hours before ringing hospital to see if any news. I know it was the right thing to take him as we live in the middle of nowhere and it's a good 30 minutes to the hospital, but am still feeling a bit glum. Could be getting on with wrapping presents but can't settle.

Oh no hope he's ok? How old is he?

moaningminniewhingesagain · 21/12/2009 23:06

Oh how horrible for you, breathing problems are just so bloody scary aren't they.

Shellseeker · 21/12/2009 23:11

He's 18 months. DD2 had croup when she was 2 but I just don't remember it being that bad. Poor old Dh was up the road at a party when I phoned and told him to come home! By the time he got back (only about 5 mins) DS was really wheezing which was really scary. The NHS direct nurse listened to him over the phone and just said 'Oh, I'm going to send for an ambulance' which was good 'cos it took that should I/shouldn't I choice away but also a bit scary 'cos then you think there's really something wrong.

are you in shock ?

I would be feeling a bit different to "a bit glum" if I were in your shoes...

forget the presents, get on the phone

Curiousmama · 21/12/2009 23:14

Thank goodness dh wasn't far then. I hope they can get him settled and back home very soon.

Shellseeker · 21/12/2009 23:18

Well I'm just trying not to over react, tbh. I have a VERY over reactive mother and I so hate how she panics at the first little thing so I try to be not like that...however, I am worried but I know he's in safe hands. you're right about the presents, though, Any...

DH did take his mobile so he'll phone if he needs to. They're quite relaxed about phonong there ,as I have found out on my many trips to A&E over the years with the Dcs!

I hope he is OK, love

I bet you won't sleep a wink...

Shellseeker · 21/12/2009 23:21

Nope...actually have weakened and am just about to phone the hospital...

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 21/12/2009 23:22

let us know

I don't want to scare you, but croup can be quite serious

BrigitBigKnickers · 21/12/2009 23:24

Hope he's ok shell.

Croup is just horrid and very scary. DD had it a few times when she was little. Try not to worry- a few nebuliser treatments and he will be sorted- he's in the right place. Thinking of you.

Shellseeker · 21/12/2009 23:27

Oh FFS!
He's not even been seen yet! It's very busy there apparently and there are 20 people to be seen before him! Poor little mite - am really cross now, as being stuck in A&E isn't going to do him any good when he's not well.

Weegle · 21/12/2009 23:28

Hope he's ok... croup can be horribly scary...

I think after ringing the hospital you SHOULD wrap the presents - if you're not going to sleep anyway then at least you'll be doing something whilst waiting for news.

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 21/12/2009 23:30

shell, hopefully he will have been triaged and a decision will have been made that he is not high priority ie. he is not desperately ill enough to be attended to immediately

that is good news (kinda...)

CinnabarRed · 21/12/2009 23:33

Thinking of you, your DS, and your DH Shellseeker.

Shellseeker · 21/12/2009 23:34

DH has just rung to say that they're being seen shortly, and DS has perked up a bit. He was very sleepy and groggy whne all this started so that must be a good sign. And at least they're not sitting in with all the pissed up revellers, which is what I was worried about! They're in a little room by themselves so at least it's a bit quieter.

Thanks for all your comments and support - it's much appreciated! x

horrible for you all.
glad it is ok

BigBadMummy · 22/12/2009 09:13

Excellent news.

SlartyBartFast · 22/12/2009 09:14

one of mine had that at similar age, it is awful, but of course by the time we got to the out of hours doc, no nhs direct then, she was fine, the fresh air apparently helped. but you dont know in these circumstances.

nappyzonecantrunfortoffee · 22/12/2009 09:17

Glad he is ok - my son has had this about 4 times now and it is so scarey - normally by time raced to hospital the change in atmosphere rights him. Worrying all the same. DId they say it was croupe?

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 22/12/2009 09:18

glad to see he is OK

sorry if I scared you

ShiriDoula · 22/12/2009 09:20

Great news!!! get better soon

BrigitBigKnickers · 22/12/2009 10:16

Yes -if sitting in a steamy bathroom doesn't work- wrap up warm and sit in the garden. Forgot about that- strange but it works.

Glad he's better.

Curiousmama · 22/12/2009 11:16

good to hear.

missorinoco · 22/12/2009 11:19

Just found this. Glad he is ok.
