Molluscum Contagiosum

Apart from this sounding like a Harry Potter spell, I'm pretty sure this is what DS1 has got all over his tummy, and starting to appear all over one leg. Some of the wart-like lumps are very angry, and most of them have a "head" (yuk). The GP has said what it is and that it will go away on its own, and I accepted that until I of course googled it when it got worse, and I discovered he shouldn't be swimming (which is where he most likely got it from) shouldn't be sharing a bath with his brother, or towels with anyone, and that it could take 3 years to go.

So I have ordered a herbal remedy online that professes to get rid of it in 3-4 weeks. He is upset by the spots and they are very unsightly, and oozy, so I thought I'd give it a shot. Has anyone had any experience of a) the condition, or b) any remedies?

Thanks,

Bloss

xx

DD1 has this at the mo. Utterly foul, as you say. She's young enough to just find it rather interesting and is not even slightly embarrassed by it (phew).

Dr told us it could be up to a year and didn't say anything about not swimming. Suggested not sharing towels but didn't think it would make much of a difference to whether DD2 got it or not (she hasn't, as yet). They still share a bath and until you mentioned it it hadn't occured to me that they shouldn't.

DD1 about 3/4 months in. She did have it in three areas (around each armpit and on one hip). Now just the hip, but still pretty yuk there.

DS has just one on his back. But I'm going to check fruther with the Dr because its only one and theres usually more than one.

The HV spoke very highly of homeopathic remedies though. He has had it for about 6 months and it does seem to be getting better.

TheGoddessBlossom · 18/12/2009 21:59

Hi Poppy. No DS2 hasn't got it either, and TBH the not sharing a bath thing is not particularly practical although it should be easy enough to allocate DS1 a "special towel." I've ordered the remedy from this website

Shall I report back when I've tried it on him?

It does seem to be getting more pronounced and widespread, and I just don't feel happy just leaving big raised weeping pus like sores untreated on his little bod.

DS2 has about 12 on his tummy, and the makings of about 10 on his leg...

Alypaly has a great method for getting rid of them (I think she read it in an old dermatology book). I tried it with DD and it worked in about a month. You get a cocktail stick, dip it in some iodine, then prick some of the larger ones. The body then reacts to them being pricked, they go all red and sore, then scabby, then they are gone! And better still it seems to set off something and they all eventually react and go - even the ones you didn't prick.

DD's weren't oozy until I'd done the prick thing, so maybe your DS's are one the way out? Either that or maybe he's been scratching them.

Anyway, good luck and I hope they go soon. They are horrible.

OmicronPersei8 · 18/12/2009 22:02

(A big thanks to Alypaly, again)

TheGoddessBlossom · 18/12/2009 22:05

Thanks Omicron. I quite like the idea of rolling up my sleeves and personally seeing them off! Unfortunately I would either have to sedate DS1 or wait till he was asleep... The only way he will even let me look at them up close is if I let him hold my hands so I can't touch them...

and yes I think he is scratching them.

DD1's don't seem to bother her at all. She says they don't itch or hurt, but she does find it all very interesting. We have a nightly check at bathtime and cheer when one 'pops' [yuk]. They look horrible and they do look sore even though she says they're not. The iodine thing sounds interesting...

jkklpu · 18/12/2009 22:25

Ds1 has them on his back and doc said ds2 likely to pick it up, but hasn't yet. As not really a long-term problem, they said not to worry and doesn't seem to bother ds1, despite the unsightliness.

OmicronPersei8 · 18/12/2009 22:25

I'm afraid I just pinned a screaming DD down and did about 3 of them. I had tried tea tree oil (diluted), the homeopathic remedy thuja, time, but the pricking worked. DD's didn't itch or hurt, but she had to wear long-sleeved tops all summer (they were on one of her arms, her side and in an armpit) and was self-conscious about them.

I promised her they'd be gone by Christmas, and they are!

poppyknot · 18/12/2009 22:29

Hi poppysocks - a near namesake!

DD1 had MC a few years ago. GP said it would go eventually which it did, although a year is a long eventually (as it tunred out to be). I think I was more bothered than she was.

Anyway TGB, good luck with the remedy!

cheekymonk · 18/12/2009 22:30

My ds has got these too and they look sore and angry. I might try that herbal remedy. He goes to swimming lessons so must be that...

Seona1973 · 18/12/2009 22:55

Colloidal silver did nothing for dd's. If your lo's are going a bit angry that normally means that the body is reacting to them and they will start to go. DS has them now but not to the same extent as dd (she had them on her face and in the crook of her arm and they looked horrible). She had some removed by the surgeon when she went in for a squint operation and they went away fairly quickly after that - she had had them for quite a long time before that though.

p.s. they both still go swimming and share baths but not towels.

alypaly · 19/12/2009 00:11

Update - got the herbal remedy from the website and within 4 days the spots were receding and now he has none. Very happy, total cure. I would highly recommend anyone getting this stuff.

Best thing i have found was called a 'Mollu-Skin Kit' it was all natural (no skin pricking involved!!) just spray clear water-like liquid onto the skin which kills viruses and give herbal antiviral immune syrup orally. AMazing stuff. Will see if i can find the web address...

ARedHead · 08/01/2010 14:41

Yes it was www.100percentnature.co.uk there is a link on homepage for molluscum...what was the herbal remedy that you used in the end?

jonquil · 18/05/2010 14:21

Hello all ... I have just found this post and as we are five weeks in to molloscum on my youngest dd, wondered whether you all still think the herbal mollu-skin kit was the best thing. It's quite expensive and not sure what's in it so would really like some views on whether it works or not?

Thank you!
