DD fell ill yesterday very quickly - started coughing, etc etc.

Through the night she's had an underarm temp of 38.7 - 39.2, even with calpol. Have been giving her calpol and it not going down. Just took temp now and it's 38.7 again.

She says her tummy hurts, cheeks hurt (very red cos of the temp), had said her head hurts and has a painful sounding cough.

Called doc last night who said to keep an eye on her. WWYD?

I would be taking her into A&E or out of hours straight away with the symptoms you describe.

really? she has been talking to me, and we were looking at the snow although she's fallen back asleep now. She is drinking water from her bottle continuously.

Then again she was singing in her sleep a little while back.....

How old is she?

Yes I would be taking her to be checked over, esp her chest it is likely she has an infection.

arghiwantabreak · 18/12/2009 08:50

she's 3.

Shes fallen back asleep now but very poorly bless her. She was saying just her head hurts. Then when asked again, her tummy hurts.

I tried to give her a bath but she screamed and screamed so sponged her down instead and got her dressed.

She is hot but wants a blanket on her.

I'm snowed in so am going to try and dig the car out otherwise I'm going to have to walk her to the doctors......Took her temp again, still 38.6.

Calpol was last given at 6.30am...

poor little thing. Take her to the docs. Hope the car can be dug out of the snow.

Sounds v much like what my DD had - she has a nasty chest infection and is on AB. She really need to be seen because of the spiking temp esp. Good luck

Ds1 had a viral flu thing last week. Started very suddenly, 40C temp, said his head hurt and then that everything hurt. Max doses of calpol and nurofen alternated 4-hourly through the night. The next morning he was completely fine for about 5 hours and then it started again. And developed a cough.

This continued for 5 days, with each day being a little better than the last. He kept spiking high temps but after the first 2 days they responded better to meds.

And ds2 caught it too. It was 'just' a virus though.

I hope your dd starts feeling better soon. Can you ask to talk to the doc on the phone, before you try to get out in the snow?

caykon · 18/12/2009 09:28

Both my 2 have been like this all week they are 2 and 3. After a lot of hassle the doctor saw them and said its a viral infection and to give them calpol and nurofen alternatively every 2 hours.
But would definately go see doc.

My DD was very poorly a few weeks ago and she had exactly what fruitful described further up the thread. Her temp shot up to 40 suddenly in the night. We did the same with calpol and nurofen. The next day she was absolutely fine all day until i checked on her about 11pm and her temp had shot back up to 40. She developed a cough that lasted 2 weeks! But the temp was more manageable after the first couple of days. NHS direct just said to keep an eye on her. 5 days later she was ok apart from a cough.

Hope your DC is ok.

We had this last week , dd's temp went up to 40.1 and was up and down for 4 days, she also had the cough for a week, she's on the mend now. I had it but suffered more with a soar throat and slight temp.
