Do children get proper flu?

Bit worried about DS.

He's had a bit of a cough and cold for weeks now, not bad enough to stop him doing anything, just very snotty and some nights his cough has really bothered him.

He had his preschool party today, I was called at 2pm to collect him as he threw up. He was pale and ill looking when I got him but cheerful(ish). Got him home and he threw up again 4 more times inbetween 2 and 6pm. No undigested food, just creamy, white sticky gunge, enough to fill the bottom of a small bowl but not massive quantities.

During that time he was happy enough still, occasional moaning and going for a lay down on the sofa, but could still run up and down with his truck.

He's not thrown up since 6 and was asleep until just now, I've given him some water, which so far has stayed down but he's very miserable and complaining of aches and pains.

His key worker said flu had wiped out most of the kids, but it seems a bit mild for proper flu but it doesn't really seem like a stomach bug though either.

Shall make an appointment with doc tomorrow if he's still bad.

Doesn't sound like 'flu. Norovirus (winter vomiting bug) is doing the rounds again. Norovirus is a bit of a sod - just when you think your DC is better, they start chucking again.
Whatever your DC has, if you are worried, go to your GP.
