GLANDULAR FEVER- advice needed please...

DH is really unwell with glandular fever (has been confirmed by blood tests. He has been unwell for 2.5 weeks now and currently has severe tonsilitus as well as being extremely fatigued.

Anyway, it would seem that he has possibly caught it off the dc's (aged 4.5, 3.5 and 1.5) who have all been unwell over the past month. Apparantly most adults are immune (90%) and most children have it very mildly. However, ds (4.5) has been the most poorly and has had fevers on and off over the past couple weeks as well as complaining of feeling generally unwell. A couple of days ago he got up in the morning and told me he was really sore behind both his knees. Today he has been crying saying he had a sore ear, though he still wanted to go out this afternoon, then on the way bhome he was crying and saying he was shaky and his chest hurts. At home he had a bath, medicine and went straight to bed with a hot water bottle. He is shivering and realy pale.

Sorry to go on but I was really just wondering if anybody's young children have had glandular fever as I can't find anything online apart from children having really mild or no symptoms. I am hoping he is not going to get worse or develop the really swollen glands like dh has...any experience of this?

I had it as a teenager so maybe different..... similar symptoms as your DH. Very sore gland sites, massive tonsils, headaches and sleeping all the time..... in fact slept for the best part of a month..... I eventually needed surgery for the tonsils as they were so big although I don't think it is that comman so would probably ignore that last statement. Hope they all feel brighter soon.... it is a horrible time of year for picking things up!

Thanks fourchickens, I am now getting more concerned about ds though, I'm really hoping he won't be struck down with it and wonder if it is possible for children to have it badly or not! I hope not!!
