E122 - Carmoisine is to give it the pretty pink colour. It's been banned in the US, Norway, Japan and a few other countries iirc for a few years. It has also been banned here now (always a bit behind...) and has to be removed by end of 2010. Absoloutely ridiculous that it is there at all and I avoid that brand for that very reason.

God, terribletwos, aren't you glad you asked?!! I also worship Calpol, but this is a bit scary, isn't it?!

terribletwos · 14/12/2009 22:40

Jeez I had no idea - thanks Sooty I will get something else instead. One of my boys gets mild eczema so I am sure that hasn't been helped.

I feel such a muppet because we are quite careful foodwise - limiting the nasties and then giving them this lot

I don't understand why they aren't forced to moderate the ingredients as Sooty says other countries have safe products?

I wonder if this is a new campaign

I only use suppositories for DS at least there is no colourings in them! in uk we are so squemish about it, but in Europe tis way more common.

They are hidously expensive otc, and GPs not keen on scripping them (can be around £20 for 10 doses) It amkes one very conservative about use which is a good thing imho!

Calpol is a nightmare anyway and far too overused.
