Baby with glasses

Has anyone's LOs been prescribed glasses from a very early age.
DD 7 months has been found to be long-sighted. They predict that she will need glasses but will decide in 6 months time. I know in the grand scheme of things it is not a big thing but I feel a bit about it and can't stop thinking about it. I think she is so pretty ( she is no different from any other baby but she's mine) and I can't bear that she will need to wear glasses so young.

Little kids with glasses look super cute. She will be just as pretty as she is now.

Of course you are sad, and that's understandable, but try not to get too upset about it.

Wearing glasses isn't such a big deal. It's a far smaller deal than having poor sight and it's great that it's been diagnosed so early.

Not silly, totally understandable.

My DS has been wearing glasses from the age of 3 - he is 5 now. I know this is older than your DD but I remember feeling the same as you. But he looks just as cute and is absolutely fine with them. Our optician has told us that its good to catch it when their young as there is a good chance of correcting it.

Kimlouiseb - you're right he does look cute. Why does he have to wear the glasses - is he long or short sighted?

He is short-sighted. He wears his glasses all the time apart from when at the park, running around etc.

If your DD does have to have glasses - I would push to get 2 pairs if you can. They get broken/lost/bent so easily (I am speaking from experience!!) and can take 2 weeks ish to be repaired/replaced. And we have always gone for the free NHS styles. They are quite nice these days and there is a large range of colours/shapes- I just don't see the point of paying for posh ones when they will be bent out of shape/need replacing in a few months time.

I do think they look cute with them on - it gives their face character, although obviously if I had a choice I would love DS to have perfect eyesight, but there wasn't much chance of that with our family history.

My friends dd has been wearing glasses since she was 13 mths old, she looks adorable. She has little pink frames and a pink elastic band which goes around the back of her head to keep them in place.

Don't worry, even if your dd has to wear glasses, she will still be gorgeous

DS had specs since 12 months - super cute. I bought skiing specs holders, like bits of padded elastic from the sports shop to help keep them on. Good luck!

My ds was refered at 8 months for a squint. After a 7 month wait we were told that he did not have a squint but was long sighted. We were not expecting that. He was given appointments every couple of months to check things. I suppose I was lulled into a false sense of him not needing glasses after so many appointments that at 2.8 when they gave me a prescription for glasses I was a wee bit shocked.
It took me a while to stop feeling silly about being sad. We all know our children aren't perfect, but for me it was like somebody had officially said that he wasn't 100%. It took me a few weeks of looking at him wearing them and hating them. I still get annoyed when taking photos as it seems they are in the way of his oh so beautiful brown eyes.
We bought some glasses from the bear factory to put on one of his bears to help him get used to wearing them.
I would choose an opticians that is close to you and easy to get to for getting them repaired. We have visited them twice in a week and he is 4.5!

I had glasses from a very early age. Looking back on old photos now I look so cute it's not true! don't like quite so cute these days unfortunately! I wouldn't worry about it in the slightest.
