My little DD (4) has the most awful dry, tickly and chesty cough, poor girl, she's coughing so much she is being sick, and she's waking herself up with it. DS (almost 2) is coming down with it too as are me and DH!! She hasn't got a runny nose or a cold, just this cough.

We've tried Boots childrens cough medicines, tixylix, calcough, calpol and nothing seems to get the cough to "loosen" anything - nothing to cough up, any ideas? Poor lamb has dark rings around her eyes from not being able to sleep, could really do with a miracle cure for her - think if I go to Tesco they could prescribe something stronger and not "off the shelf"?

I would go to the GP TBH, they always seem to think that cough mixture doesn't do much but it might be worth getting the doc to listen to her chest just to make sure it's not wheezy.

Sorry to say there's loads of it about, DH has been keeping us all awake coughing at night for the last week !!

Dd1 is the same , i spent 2 hours sat with her last night whilst she coughed until she was sick . We have been using calcough and tixylix, in the end last night i gave her a cough sweet to suck which stopped her coughing for 5 minutes. I also plugged in a carvoil(sp) vaporizer for her which seemed to help her breathe.

Try putting Vic on her feet before bed, aparently this is supposed to help, i sent dd1 to school today with vic on her feet.

Dd1 has had it since sunday and i have had it for a couple days, i am struggling with the cough and soar throat, i'm taking Buttercup cough medicine which seems to help but it tastes foul so dd1 won't take it.

My daughter (2) was like this and the GP prescribed anti-b's and gave her stronger cough medicine for use at night. It all cleared up within a day or two, having hung around for weeks.

If she's coughing a lot, try making her room steamy - I boil a kettle in there before bed, although obv be careful not to leave it within reach. And make sure she's drinking enough, it thins the mucus so it is easier to cough up.

Thanks, we will go off to Tesco for Vicks and I'll ask them. Also will try to get appt for docs...

I know a cure for adult cough - Boots anaesthetic spray is fab, stops the tickling before it starts but obv can't be used on children.
