15 month sick since Sept - ears?

My 15 month old son has had 3 ear infections since OcSeptember and being on 3 courses of anti b's since October. He is on anti b's since Tuesday last week he was put on one on Monday but threw up after each dose so changed on Tuesday and seemed to be getting better. However he developed chesty cough and runny nose on Saturday and lost appetite on Sunday. He came home from childminders today where he had been fine until 2pm since then he has slept on and off, waking up with bad nappy and going straight back to sleep, has red raw cheeks, slight temp of 37.1 and hasn't eaten since lunch, listless, clingy and whimpering when he wakes at all. Could it be ear infection is still raging? a diiferent virus or even teething? Any help/opinions welcomed as I become increasngly concerned as he has been sick since Sept 15th (1st ear infection was missed).
Thanks

Cailin, I would take him back to the GP. Better to overreact than not to, especially with young ones.

Could poss. be teething but the cough/runny nose/lost appetite on Sat-Sun would make me wonder if that was the only thing going on.

Was there any fluid noticed behind the eardrum? Is his hearing generally good?

Hope he gets well soon and try comfort foods e.g. stewed fruit, soups, milk to help get some calories in, and also fluids.

Sounds likely, we had a similar problem. Just to reassure you (hopefully) that multiple infections are common. My DS (currently 2.5) has had about eleven ear infections between November last year and June this year. First one wasn't picked up and he ended up with mastoiditus and in hospital so for every one after that he was straight onto antibiotics. He seemed to just finish one course have two or three ok days and then get another infection. His symptoms were high temp, not eating, unhappy and clingy etc.

We were referred to ENT due to frequency of infections. Consultant said it was probably just due to the short distance between ear/throat in our son. Three things which also made ear infections more likely, according to consultant are:
Not breastfeeding child, smoking parents or attending nursery (DS is at Nursery).

If it continues I would ask for ENT/ hearing test referrals just to check on things. DS has had hearing tests luckily all OK. Our GPs just kept on prescribing antibiotics which worked. We ended up using Calpol and Calbuprofen alternately during some episodes just to keep fever under control. Seems to have grown out of it now thank god/fingers crossed!

It was hard at the time but just keep on top of it and don't worry about going to GP whenever you suspect an infection.
