She has a horrible cough and sore throat and everytime she coughs it makes her cry and her voice is so hoarse. On the other hand I have already been giving her calpol and I can't see what else the doctor is going to do. What do you think?

try NHS direct 0845 46 47. They'll tell you whether you need to see a doc or not.Or just ring your GP out of hours service, they'll talk to you over the phone before deciding whether to send someone.
Hope she gets better soon

She might have swollen tonsils or a chest infection and would need anti b so yes.

Thanks. I'm a bit worried in case I look like a totally mental mummy, taking her pfb to the doctors for nothing.

Don't worry about that, they're usually happy to see you even if it's just for reassurance sake. My sisters are both docs so they get the loony phone calls, saves me a lot of face at the GPs!

Doctor seemed to think it is a virus and possibly some asthma and she was a bit wheezy. But typically she was the picture of health in the doctors and then coughed her guts up the second we got home including sicking up a whole load of flem. So pleasant.
