dd was 8 in August and none such, but she is a very skinny petite specimen

noonar · 03/12/2009 16:28

thanks. my dd is on the sturdy side, but not really over weight. however it is a bit hard to tell if the breast tissue is just general plumpness- but i dont think it is.

she's quite body conscious, so i dont want to get her worried.

her nipples have that slightly puffy appearance.( her 5 yo sister's, by comparison, are no different to a boys) is taht a sign of breast budding?

Hi my daughter is 7.5 no signs of puberty still a skinny little baby really.
There is a girl in her class who is very tall for her age and just turned 8, her mum tells me she has pubic hair and breast buds and she has been to see a specialist regarding this.

If I were you I would speak to my gp it is quite early, I'm sure nothing to worry about though.

noonar · 03/12/2009 17:19

Sorry I really didn't mean to set you off I mentioned the girl in dd's class in order to reassure rather than alarm. All kids are different and develop at different rates, my aunt apparently started periods at 9 and I was 14. Get it checked out, but don't panic please.
Sorry again have and tea/wine

CantThinkofFunnyName · 03/12/2009 18:20

Noonar my own DD is only 6 so I can't comment on her development just yet, but I was wearing bras at the age of 9, had terrible stomach cramps from the age of 7 and puberty certainly started between 8 and 9. Periods followed shortly thereafter. It's certainly early - but not that uncommon.

More importantly, it might be time to start having "chats" with her. My mum didn't and when I started my period at the age of 9 I completely freaked!

noonar · 03/12/2009 18:31

thankyou pixie, schroeder and cant think.

schroeder you didnt really worry me, tbh. i think i'll have a chat with school nurse. dd is v sensitive so dont want her to freak out and think she's ill if i take her to the dr.

we had a birds and bees chat lately- she prompted it. and she's familiar with tampons so has a bit of knowledge. in a way, though i dont want her to notice/ draw attention to the changes in her body, as they are quite subtle and she's not commented on them so far.

My dd is 8.7, no signs of breast buds yet, but has started to 'get furry like my knees' on her labia. She was very about this. I reassured her that it wasn't anything to worry about, it seems that her and her friends had been comparing after swimming one afernoon.

MmeLindt · 04/12/2009 07:46

DD will be 8 in April and has no signs of puberty beginning.

noonar · 04/12/2009 11:35

kreecher, your dd is a year older than mine...hmm...

have spoken to sch nurse and dr's surgery. they can apparently do a blood test to look into this, without subjecting dd to a physical exam. making an apt for next week
